Garena is adding skill tree resets as a micro transaction in 1.1.3. Thoughts?

Have you missed Chris' response? Go read it.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

I can agree that the ability to respec low level characters would probably be a positive change. It is indeed abusable, and would need to be disabled for races, but it is a common feature of many online games nowadays simply because it's player friendly without really harming the game. It lets new players get introduced to the game forcing them to make choices.

At the same time, though, it could be argued that PoE ISN'T a player friendly game. This was made as a relatively hardcore game based on Diablo 2 and mostly meant to be played by people who already played D2. Always that point of view thing.

A full respec as a quest reward somewhere in cruel might be a good way to go. Wouldn't be farmable/tradeable, would allow new players to fuck up and still progress (unless they chose bad gems), and I really don't see anything wrong with being able to level quickly with a build, then totally changing it around (once) to a very specialized one. Most just rush through it with leveling gear, anyway.
No. Calm down. Learn to enjoy losing.
buying a respec ?
not such a great idea.

respecs available on a regular basis in some way, like the end of the 4-month leagues ?
yes, please.

once you've leveled up 10 or 12 characters that's enough. i'm not interested in going through all that crap again just because i want to try a new build.

getting a character to level 82 or 83 is a lot of work, i'd like a full respect so i can recover builds that are, uh, "underperforming".

doesn't need to be available every day or anything, but it would be nice on some regular basis. that way i could experiment for a couple of weeks, and if it doesn't work out i can just put it on ice until the next respec.

Like others have said, it's pretty silly the way they try to justify this.

Being able to more easily respec will help retain players, but charging money for it in a supposed F2P game is a very bad idea, imo.

Of course, increasing the drop rate of regret orbs would be unthinkable! Why reward the players who play the game when we can just reward the one who have more money than they know what to do with?
I don't see the problem. It would be a problem if regret orbs were replaced with a respec MTX, because then the ability to fully enjoy the game would be gated by spending money. If people want to spend real money to cut corners in the game and rob themselves of the progression experience, which is where the core enjoyment of a grindy arpg derives, that's their business.

In general, the only problem I see with real-money dynamics in these games is when you have something like D3's RMAH, where the best items in the game were destined to be whisked away to the 1% real-money economy so that non-paying players could never attain them. A respec MTX does not engender such a dynamic.

All the people talking about posting threads to help players on the Garena forums are very misguided. They and the PoE community in general would be much better served if we spent our time on the Garena forums inviting them to come join us in the real game. If you have time to help these new English speaking players why not help them out within the game?

The more SEA players that play on the real PoE servers the sooner Garena PoE will die, and the sooner Garena PoE dies the better PoE's future in SEA.

I am NOT gonna go over to another company's game and attempt to entice their playerbase over here. My intent is to help folks (if in any way I can) to enjoy the game there, not to "emancipate" them from teh EEE-Vulll Garena. Whatever may be wrong with Garena, it's the business partner GGG chose, so I'm not gonna meddle with that.

As for all the fauxrage in this thread about the differences in Garena's PoE vis a vis P2W, that version of the game might as well be in an alternate-universe, complete with little goatees on everyone.

It ain't this PoE, and it never will be. If Chris and GGG start implementing P2W and E-Zmode elements like Garena has, then you'll have something to complain about. None of this affects anyone here; y'all just like to bitch. ='[.]'=

This microtransaction won't be making its way to the official GGG servers. It's only on the Garena servers (currently Singapore/Malaysia). The microtransaction cannot be traded - it lives in the mtx stash.

The points I'd like to impart are:
a) We are willing to allow Garena to experiment with microtransactions that they feel are appropriate for their audience, on their servers.
b) This microtransaction isn't something that I would choose to add to our servers, but it's certainly not game-breakingly harmful.
c) We have the ability to push back on requested changes. If they wanted to add something really harmful, then we'd disagree. They haven't asked to add anything really harmful. Other companies have asked.
d) While we can't talk about the specifics, the licensing deal with Garena has and continues to help the development resources of Path of Exile substantially.

Any chance we could be shown a vague pie chart showing your various sources of income?
