Improving Communication: The Development Manifesto (Please Read First!)

Hate to bump an old thread but was just browsing the forums and noticed you guys mentioned that you valued communication with your community as a priority. Well I am sorry to say that I have been waiting for more than 2 months now for some actual customer support through the email team and I had to point it out here. Maybe this will ignite some fire beneath the teams feet and get them moving again as it currently feels like it's at a stand still.
Any news, roadmap on adding latest FSR upscaling technology please?
Yeah the communication ship sailed when Chris left
I PoE 2 very much, but the end of the season has kept me offline for three days now.
No player wants to invest time in a game where their progress is about to reset to zero.
This is also the main reason why the PoE series has never truly taken off globally.
Now, I hope you'll listen to my free, million-dollar advice.
I promise it’s a "$30 Time Capsule" for each season.
The Time Capsule allows players to select one item at the end of the season to carry over into the next one, but this item will be bound and non-tradable.

The reason why Japanese anime with "reincarnation" themes are popular among young people is that everyone dreams of choosing an overpowered skill upon rebirth.
With the Time Capsule system, I believe it's a win-win-win-win situation!
1. In each season, additional revenue will be generated from Time Capsules, which is much better than selling stash tabs. 2. It will attract players who hate league systems, like me. 3. Because epic gear can be preserved, veteran players will be willing to spend money on Time Capsules and see you as Santa Claus. 4. Everyone wants to "start ahead," so the end of the season becomes the peak of player engagement and excitement for the game. They will invest their earnings for the whole season to get that one epic item for their Time Capsule.
I will keep reminding you until you consider this idea. Thank you.

Big words, like no player, main reason, but it's just bunch of lies without any sense.

this is a terrible idea they will never implement unless they want to break the "never pay to win" trust they've built up. You think this is a good idea, but as usual players often think they want something thats appealing in the short term that actually worsens the game longer term. I'm fond of pointing out that D4 is the perfect example of a game that panders to these destructive impulses of people who play it.

There's a reason why D4 doesn't get seasonal hype or long term player retention or streamers.

It can be summed up as allowing shortcuts, smoothing down all the rough edges or friction in the game, making the slope so shallow anyone can climb it. I might argue that POE is a steeper mountain climb than whats best for it but the opposite can also be true and some things like buying items with real money (Pay to win) massively accelerate that to the point of provably and permanently ruining the game.

Once you're seen as setting up "the slope" or "mountain climb" (the obstacle course of challenges or tuning or balancing of the game) for the purpose of selling "time capsules" (p2w) you're instantly eliminating almost all hard core gamers from considering your game to be a real game. The exact same thing happens when you make the "Mountain climb" into a breezy short hike that anyone can do in an afternoon.

Selling super duper hiking shoes at the beginning of the trail that turns a mountain into a slight incline turns what most core gamers consider to be games, into what they might consider to be AMUSEMENT PARKS.

There's actually a 1 for 1 analogy here that displays why D4 is so much less of a real game than say POE. Its the short hike anyone can do, versus the mount Everest which requires a dedicated long expedition which YOU MIGHT FAIL. One is a bit like an achievement and is treated as such by its players, and the other is a half day as the amusement park overpaying for food, for short bits of overly curated thrill rides that 9 year olds can get on.

Again not saying POE is the perfect mountain, it needs a couple extra modes to serve the widest playerbase (something less trivial than SC trade, but no as sweaty as SSF). But it is certainly the K2 that defeats many a amateur (gamer dad) climber and keeps them wanting to come back.

Once you've been to an amusement park a couple times you know what you're getting, and you start caring more about the 9 dollar hotdogs and 6 dollar bottles of water and 45 minute lines for each ride that you pay more to "VIP" your way to the front of.

Lost Arc: amusement park
D4: short hike
POE (not SC trade): K2

Its 1 for 1 If you don't believe me just look at Diablo Immoral, most MMO's that have p2w or buy to progress boosting mechanics and the like -- They aren't being played by core gamers -- Because they aren't serious games.

Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.

Not entirely inaccurate; I think communication got steadily worse when Reddit started mocking "the vision" (the vision which is responsible for why people keep coming back and playing POE over and over instead of games that have "modern features" like green up arrows, campaign skip or Auction houses etc.).

Openly calling Chris a liar, and mocking his views of game design in basically Chris' final reddit posts. You can go search reddit for it its literally the last few reddit posts by Chris to the POE sub (at least that I ever saw).

Lots of gamers especially on reddit don't seem to have the first clue why they like POE more than D4 or any game more than another. So because Chris always tried to reason with people who wanted BAD short sighted "quality of life" (like Auction houses or super fast leveling) he often cited the underlying principles that make a game good "the philosophy" or "the vision" -- and they mocked it, because it wasn't the short term gratification answer they wanted to hear. The "vision" is the very thing that causes most of us to treat D4 as lesser gameplay value than POE.

Its ironic they openly mock the thing that causes them to value POE more passionately than many other games; more or less completely clueless to the fact.

The kind of human beings who habitually "don't know what they got until its gone".

And poetically enough, the same can be said for Chris.

A good while before that, when they started bullying bex and the death threats to other staff members, after that really every time they communicated a certain group of people took that to start misunderstanding everything and turning it into an attack on GGG and their staff, including "the vision", they put up with a lot of shit and it is little wonder that they don't communicate every little thing all of the time
Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi

He who controls the pants controls the galaxy. - Rick & Morty S3E1
if we really want to go way back we can talk about when they started catering (being afraid to piss off) the Cute_Dog/Bakedchicken zoom zoom players.

By enabling zoom zoom to capture POE's balance and take over all the design space; they laid down with the kind of player who was not going to read a balance manifesto and accept the reasoning in it. They enabled the kind of player who mocks "the vision" without understanding that the vision is the reason they're here.

Its been years since they last posted a balance manifesto... Because the type of players they got in bed with don';t give a shit if there's good reasons for things, they just want the game to dump divines on their heads that explode into showers of exalts.

I've said this many times; they made their own bed.

a lot of players who start playing poe will eventually buy at least 50-100 usd of stash. it is ineveitable.

players who enjoy temp leagues tend to buy supporter packs/kirac passes for additional cosmetics. there is no need for an additional seasonal item.

i hate league system too but Last epoch came up with a solution. which is to simply allow players in standard league to access temp league content on standard.

this way no monetization is required.

some players like you may like it but a majority of us will HATE it. poe is mostly an f2p game. most people come to poe because it's f2p with no real p2w (we "forget stash tabs are p2w" lol).

in fact many people play poe and avoid undecember/torchlightinfinite because those games are p2w.

of course everyone wants to start ahead. but do you realize what that means? in new leagues, the best players/guilds could buy the capsule to "carry forward" a powerful leveling item. in settlers we can make level 1 swords that have lvl 15 envy aura. thats HUGE!

when a group of players reach end game sooner, do you know what happens?

monopoly!

players get to farm juiced maps faster and earn currency faster. they can actually spoil or control the market.

do you know in affliction league, there was a group of players who monopolized hinekora's lock? they bought EVERY lock available and sold them at super high prices. if you wanted it, you had no choice but to buy from them. you can get lucky and buy from people who sell at a cheaper price. but its more likely their team will quickly buy the lock before other players have a chance.

its simply unfair.

if you want to keep reminding ggg of this idea. know that MOST of the community is against it and you are wasting your effort. it will not happen and if it did, it would mean most of the old poe players have already left and GGG is desperate.
