Improved Hailrake Fight in 1.1.3

Way back in the day, Fairgraves and Alira were the most dangerous enemies. So much has changed.
Will these become a legacy item ?

the old GGG "improved boss fight" routine.

Why not make him use both the new shiny Glacial Cascade AND the good old Icespear?

I agree on keeping Hailrake as the uncrowned "Rip-King" I myself fell victim to his unrelenting force on my first and only HC char, now it didnt make me leave the game albeit it were the stop to a very short journey in that league. That didnt make me feel like I wanted to leave at all, so instead I immedeately returned to my place in SC. Its my firm beleief that If players leave the game cause of dying that early in any game then the game clearly is not for them anyways and or that person doesnt like to play games at all.

Normal hailrake was already pretty good at that.
Frankly, hailrake has always been very weak, especially in normal. I can't understand the bother around him. Even when I first tried the game I thought it was an easy fight.

I've heard they are trying to find a skill that suits him well, but apparently they didn't create it yet.

GGG posted some statistics a while back, showing that most people RIP at Hailrape ... and since this game needs a constant influx of new players (& new supporters), this is why this particular boss is getting reworked.

And I agree with the common sentiment on Fairgraves: with all the love Invasion bosses have received lately, the lowly Fairgraves is in need of a revamp also.

I asked the designers to make sure he is still "scary" in Cruel and Merciless.


He's the most scary in a race on normal difficulty when you have to do him for a skill gem. Trying to kill him fast because it's a race, no gear, no anti-freeze flask, no damage and maybe a coral ring. Just insta-gib.

I call shenanigans. Nothing is more scary than instagib, especially with the possibility for desync and lag. Some invasion bosses and vaal side area bosses have plenty of instagib if you're not fully geared for your level. Instagib level of "difficulty" is nothing more than trial and error and learning what kills you so you know what to avoid or how to avoid it. Very 1980s, early 90s style gaming of "difficulty."
