Development Manifesto - Desync
Dude this post is soooooo outdated. I remember it from Open Beta, if not CB.
Also internet is not what it used to be 7 years ago when GGG decided on their netcode. You can play wait-on-server model games with no lag delay unless you have horrible connection to begin with. But you still can not play PoE without desynch even with 30ms connection (I know because I have one). Anyway outdated post for outdated engine kinda makes sense :/ |

I can life with desync and also rubber-banding if it wouldn't be that often.
Sometimes it takes ages to synchronize. I stay in front of a new area I want to enter and see for a couple of seconds how my EC is cast by CwDT and all I can do is to pot and wait until I see myself in the middle of the pack where I have been stuck seconds ago. I enjoy PoE and played it in rampage as much as I could, beside work and life. But these problems are really annoying and PoE is the only game I know which has this problem (played Rift, Aion, WoW, D2, GW, D3 and so on). Greetings |

*stir*stir*
Tech has changed, bandwidth is much cheaper, and this problem can be "refined". I bring this up because I just came back to PoE. The desync issues are "better" but no other commercial game I play has these problem - BUT I acknowledge no other ARPG has the mechanics that PoE has. Desync is the #1 cause of problems for PoE; has been since day one. Now that they're making some real money, Chris and his team really need to address a plan to tackle this problem. Right now they're just making little tweaks while avoiding the core issue, which will probably require a complete rewrite of their infrastructure. Given their success and the fact they live in a great place (New Zealand) perhaps they can entice some fat cat dev from Blizzard who has more experience than they do to head up the architecture redesign -- while keeping the game's complex core intact. All that and a bag of chips! Last edited by Mooginator#1287 on Feb 19, 2015, 1:18:39 PM

So, wait...
The latest excuse to be tossed around about GGG doing nothing about this, is that the post is old... Nah, they made a public statement, calming the masses, and left it to rot. There is no incoming fix, ever. They knew it then, we knew it then. We all still know it now. Dont get me wrong, love GGG, and the game, but they dropped the ball big fuckin time on Desync, and their *plans to alleviate it. Actually, Im not even sure they ever picked the fuckin ball up. " This shit gets old. Cause a few routines, and some math is all that fuckin amazing right? people act as if POE is doing something no other game ever has. Well, you'd be right, but it aint the mechanics, its the fail boat Network Model that no other game uses, cause, well... look at it. BTW : For the record, I am not complaining about Desync here, personally , I dont give a fuck anymore. I paid good exalts to Desync like a motha fucker every time I kill a Shroud Walker. Desync is here to stay, in its glorious current form. Get used to it. GGG - Why you no? Last edited by JoannaDark#6252 on Feb 19, 2015, 2:45:38 PM

Love the desync! It keeps us honest :)

What is inconceivable for me is that some specs, and in some cases the WHOLE SKILLS, become literally unusable. Namely Flicker Strike among all. You basically CAN NOT make a spec based on that skill. THIS... is really disgusting imo. There is no way in hell, heaven or earth that this is or even will ever be acceptable. The impossibility of a spec due to desync is the death of optimization/networking.
But this is ofc a worthless opinion, but I bet that if 90% of the players stop playing/buying stuff due to desync they will hire 100 high end programmers and it will be definitely fixed in a week or so. I am Drakunia... and you are not! And I am also GFL (Gamer For Life)

" I dont think so. I believe they have built too big of a box around the core problem. My opinion. If people stopped buying anything completely, the game would simply die eventually (although - all things do - cept for time). Desync would still never be fixed. I bet. Of course, this is a bet that cant really be made, can it? GGG - Why you no? Last edited by JoannaDark#6252 on Feb 19, 2015, 3:44:01 PM

" Well, if you have a golden fountain (that spits gold) and all of a sudden it will not work anymore, you don't just go "oh well, it's not working anymore", nope, you would invest the gold it gave you to fix it and let it spit more gold. " Sometimes things arent that simple. This conversation *could get very depthful, with alot of factors to consider, and im simply not going to bother with that. Peace, Love, Happiness, and Bluntz brah! GGG - Why you no?
