It's much more balanced now. Elemental adaptation is 2%, and purity is 2% max res, or 3% if you get increased effect on the buff. Taking 20% damage is only a 20% damage reduction compared to 25% damage. This makes it much easier to balance content in general, and allows players to make more meaningful (and not completely necessary) choices. If you want to protect yourself against elemental damage, then get purity and/or elemental adaptation. It sure helps, but you still need to care about elemental damage.

It isn't balanced. Solo play is getting absolute raped with this change. +Max resist is a flawed mechanic that just magnifies how crappy the current max resist mechanic is. It will never be balanced and why GGG continues to mess with it and has not replaced it is perplexing.

Right, so now, a full party, where it is most unlikely that any one player will take damage from even a quarter of the monsters on the screen can have + whatever to every element.

And a solo player, WHO IS TARGETED AND ATTACKED BY EVERY SINGLE MONSTER, until one party is dead, can pick one element in place of purity. And needs 3 pieces of swappable gear to accommodate.

Yup, balance at its best.

I think this just magnifies how flawed the current color slotted system is. It is great with a few powerful gems, but with the increasing number of mediocre skill gems being introduced they are breaking their own game.

Many people are complaining about the Purity change, but I completely support this change. It's extremely hard to balance content when players have wildly varying amount of base resist. Just consider in open beta: you could have +5% max resist from elemental adaptation, +5% with a Purity buffed with inner force. You'd be taking 15% elemental damage, compared to everybody else taking 75% without the same setup. That's 60% of the total damage. Balancing elemental damage with such huge disparities becomes immensely difficult. Anything that is hard for the 85% res character will basically one shot a 75% res character, and anything that's hard for a 75% res character is a joke for an 85% res character.

Of all the things that I have read so far in this post, this was the only one that I found very informative. If you look things at this perspective, the changes in purity will appear to be well thought out.

I agree with th purity "nerf".Although i wont call it nerf and i see game going in good direction, there should be options, and not mandatory things.

Whoever cry for this, just get real.plz..

As for expansion comments, which is hillarious,i have seen dlc of unimportant things called expansions. This one adds a season race new armors weapons gems.In a way its expanding. Not only that but

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expansion_pack

Wiki agrees with me.

Like an example.Look all this sims. All they are called are expansions, where is some models+ into the game.Should you cry to EA for using the term expansion in there for minor changes as well?no?so whoever complains about the term, gtfo and get a life, seriously, you dont know wha tto complain in these days....
Bye bye desync!
What are the stat requirements for these 3 gimped auras?

Do we have yet another reason why we need 150+ of each stat even thou only one of them is even remotely useful to the selected build?
...one day someone needs to clue GGG in that it's okay to improve skills in a balancing patch. Get on the new shit day 1 when it's useful before they incrementally nerf it through the floor over the next 2-3 patches.
The new Descent race looks really interesting. But can't say I'm too happy with Purity nerf, makes solo play even less viable, and party is not viable with a mediocre computer. So yeh.

Max resist should've been caped and that's it, maybe. Easier to balance it solo vs party.
GGG, please do your players and paying costumers a big favour and let us know what you want your game to look like in the long run.

Spoiler
To me it starts looking more and more like a huge overly complicated scientific simulation coupled with an insane RNG.
Yes a simulator, not a game.
Some simulators can cover that up with enough *fluff* features to function as a game still, but lately I'm having doubts for our beloved PoE.
It's getting too mathy and shallow in terms of immersive gameplay.
People will spend more times on the planer micro-managing their builds, spending time in trade chat, just to grab new items I wouldn't call upgrades, but to compensate for the next nerf around the corner.
Your *balancing the game* approach is going down the PvDev fight more and more.
Plus decisions that don't help solo players.
Summoners still aren't favoured in teams and Purity is a must have for minions, so how do you balance solo summoners?

How about you drop your nerf hammer for a moment, drop your M:tG card decks too, sit down altogether at your round table and storm on actual new game concepts?
How about a trade interface for listing items with a mail function?
How about improving guild features like lairs to hang out with your buddies?
How about adding a not so random *real* endgame instead of cropping act 3 merciless areas to stay just in tune with lowest level map content?
And last but not least, how about adding fishing?

Yes, I think the game could use some fun activities that don't evolve around endless grinds, stats or re-rolling maps.

/rant end
If you're leaving PoE, chances are I'll rezz you as my minion! MWHAHAHAH
Hey Chris, what is the purpose of the leap slam part at the end of the video ?
Is there a secret room to find ?

And like many others, the current charges look better than the ones in the video which look like they come from a different game/world. They look out of place.

Waiting the new races badly
Purity nerf makes the game harder. If you think the game shouldn't be harder, stop uninstall and leave.
Most of the changes in the last few updates haven't really affected me so I can't really comment much on them, but I trust GGG to make the right changes (as I believe they always have) and I have faith that they would right their wrong if they felt it was necessary.

Regarding the "Expansion" vs. "Content Patch"... My take is this: If they're expanding the game with more zones/acts/etc., then I believe they have a right to call it what it is, an expansion.
