Patch 0.9.12qq includes a Legacy Migration
As a brand new player I have to ask what is the point of starting to play when a wipe is coming and another in the next 90ish days for the 2012 deadline on open beta seems like anything we do is pointless besides finding out if we like the game well enough to play when the wipes stop?
For you egos the game is being mentioned in the Torchlight 2 vs Diablo 3 fourm wars as the hands down winner, which is how I got here and mostly agree, double wipe coming is real turn off for new players... |

" There will be an open PVP option, which any character can participate in. (Although I'd recommend high level ones for this.) There will also be a specific level 28 tier. Characters for this type of PVP must be level 28 or lower, and must not have left Normal difficulty. PVP will start in 0.9.13. However Chris was letting people know about the level 28 tier now, so players can start making characters for this form, and know the restrictions, so they don't exit Normal, or over level. | |
It's beta. The point is to find bugs in the game.

" The wipes will 'stop' with Open Beta, which is when we anticipate the majority of players will 'start'. For those of us here now, we're here to both play and to test. This is, despite the ease with which people can acquire keys, still a closed beta and one of the first rules of any closed beta is that the game is still in a transient state. It can change significantly based on tester feedback, which occurs here quite a lot. If you wish to PLAY Path of Exile with absolutely no desire to give back to the game by providing feedback on your findings, if you are more concerned about your own personal experience as a player, then I strongly suggest you wait until Open Beta. Personally I can't see why anyone would do that -- being a part of a great game as it evolves and approaches its final state is incredibly exciting, and yes, a big ego stroke. Because when the rest of the world finds PoE, we alpha and beta testers can sit back and smile, knowing that if they do like the game, it's partly because of what we did. Alpha and beta testers are part of the achievement. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

I haven’t read the entire thread yet, so similar might have already been suggested… also unsure on GGG official response, so this is simply my take on it…
" As everyone knows Open Beta is approaching in coming months. As communicated, OB requires the last reset and fresh start for all characters on a clean system/server… however, since a reset + fresh start hasn’t been tested for some time (now with more players, more features and more content)… GGG need to test this one last time before going into OB. What kind of impact will thousands of new characters have on the game and servers, how quickly will players progress, how will the economy evolve and many more things to test. What is the point of starting??? Remember, this is in Beta… they need to use us players to do this actual testing. Sure. It’s been great having early access to the game, and virtually playing it like a released title, but this is where we really do our bit to help GGG test this shit out!!! So… jump in and give them some of your time… and help GGG who’ve done wonderfully well to create a great game in their own time. Chris Wilson: "Today was the proudest day of my life." Wow great answers and fast too, I understand the giving back concept, but toss us testers a bone when the final wipe comes, some badge of honor that says we spent our time testing this!

Hey, reading about the migration on the 5th didn't cause me any more than a moment's worth of annoyance. Legacy migration is a good decision for this coming patch. Resist changes should invalidate existing characters in a more powerful way than any patch I've seen so far.
We've needed a migration for a while now. This is a good time for it. Now eagerly awaiting the 10th. Taking a quick break from PoE, and when I do think on it I'm working out how I'm going to make infernal blow look stupidly OP in the new HC league.... Impossible, right?
