Resistance Penalties (and a league to test them!)
Hopefully this will encourage more public parties with more varied character auras :)

I do hope that with this change we will also be able to build rings/amulets that have ALL resistances through crafting.
Like, one ring of each resistance + one skill gem of each color (+ one alc). Or the above + iron ring for a resistance ring, and + onyx amulet for a resistance amulet. Something like that. |

Having not even reached Merciless in the default league yet I don't think I'm really in a good position to comment on the end game, however I have noticed that it's really way too easy to get res capped without even really trying. However considering they can make it a league setting, for those of you that really don't like it, buy your own league later with the settings that you'd like :)

I don't necessarily need to test the changes since i know how bad elm/elm ailments are now for melee. I'm not sure how people consider all this too easy - unless playing endgame means being a mara/witch with mf gear. I definitely don't find all that amazing gear you all mention.
As a single player, melee duelist i already need to stack life, armor, evasion and now resist just to survive before any gear. Gear should have meaning in this game but this almost renders anything else moot. You can flame about wanting a hard game and crying all you want. I still this is an overall counterproductive change. This is, all in all, discouraging and frustrating to me and IMO to a lot of chars/builds that are not on the beaten path/ are cookie cutters. In the end, remains to be seen. Lets all just hope that the Vaal oversoul boss damage gets nerfed a little bit then...i think its frustrating to force the player to get 140%-150% resistances on fire AND lightning just because otherwise he gets one shot if he gets hit 1 time...
But i hope what Chris said becomes true and they nerf the monster elemental damage a little bit so we dont have to run around with all maxed resistances and can still survive most situations. Pyramid is still going to be tough then. Hardcore Theorycrafter

and righteous fire got nerfed again cause of this....
So many build ideas... no time....

You'll now need 200 Lightning resist to step into Chamber of Sins in Merciless, 150 Light AND Fire for Merciless Oversoul AND 200 Fire, Cold and Lightning to attempt any maps with Elemental Weakness mod.
So now you're pretty much forced to take Kraityn's rewards which is a HUGE nerf to life totals which is going to make Chaos damage from monsters even more OP. LOL. NTY. IGN: CPU, Gas, Cop, Live, Flee, Oil

Will wait and see but it's gonna be challenging.
At least in "that other game", you could carry around resist charms in your inventory to make up any shortfalls. The passive tree is different to this because it's too costly to make small changes on the fly. OB: BazzVone - 83 Dual Spork Totem Templar /w CI and minions
CB: BazzVfourteen - 80 Dual Spork Totem Templar /w CI CB: BazzVtwo - 73 Dual Spork Totem/LS Templar CB: BazzVseven - 76 Lightning Strike Mara CB: BazzVfive - 78 Lightning Strike Mara |

To those complaining about how hard this will make Merciless:
That's the entire point. The final difficulty is supposed to be extremely difficult. Only the best-equipped and the best-built characters should excel. Poorly-made characters should die much more often, and this is a way for that to happen. Suggesting ways to negate this change (allowing much higher resists on gear, many more resistance passives, etc.) is a little silly. There wouldn't be much reason to make the change at all if it also came with easy methods of negating the change. Try it before you bash it. This is what beta testing is all about. So if i don't excel (definition pending) i should not get to see endgame content? What kind of logic is that?
I understand not having an easy experience or get loads of gear and currency, but whats the point of a difficulty where only very specific builds or gear-rich players are the only ones who wont get one-shotted everywhere? This is just an artificial hold back mechanism that will force grind on lower content for gear or sacrifices builds viability to survive IMO. Playing a dual-wielding swordsman of some kind.
