Resistance Penalties (and a league to test them!)

If you want to force everybody to wait for content until they are 3+ levels above it just code it that way rather then this contrived messing with resistances which forces a rebalance of the tree, gear and playstyles.

You just described exactly how I play (+2 levels) in the last two 1 weeks. I did pretty well. It is called hardcore for a reason.

I alt F4 0 times.

It is simply counter intuitive that you can be in ruthless and merciless and be (3-5) levels under the content and still be fine. That is insane, and quite frankly silly.

So no, we can't afford losing the max resists, it would open the scissors between various playstyles even wider. But what can we do to not let them open? Oh, stack the resists to compensate it, of course. Some playstyles don't need to exactly max it, but some do - the tanks (nope, groundslam mara is not a tank). What do tanks take from bandits? Life. Now they will take +8% resists instead. Basically they will just lose some life and have to focus on resists more. They will probably trade some damage nodes for the new resist nodes.

I ask you master Yoda, are we still going the right way?

thank you for proving my point. by indirectly forcing players to take resists from bandits and items (cause basically if you don't you die) you therefore limit the number of playstyles and builds....

BTW Yoda says wait and see how GGG does this
So many build ideas... no time....

How does this change affect minions? Admittedly, I'm not sure if minions have resists to begin with.

Who says we are playing Hardcore? What about default league then?
Playing a dual-wielding swordsman of some kind.
In game name is Kaosu and/or ChaosBlade.

not sure about this but game needs to be made harder... currently you always die to: game bugs, invisible attacks or very strange monster combos. with 99.5% of mobs you always feel safe.
safe= ultimately boring, running around piñata style to see what you find.
not to say that every combat has to have a high death chance..
lets see what happens in merc, with increased damage + lowered res I can see a few people dying to firebombs in terraces... then again thats what tests are for :)
am currently in other games but am certain to come back, and its nice to see poe is still changing a lot.
have finally gotten used to the lab... I dont hate it anymore.:)
I'm in the wait and see camp. Still feeling my way around in merciless and maps. I have to agree that resists became moot by merciless as I was maxed out - but I always side with Kraityn as he owns my a$$ anytime I try to take him on. Alira was not very challenging so I can see her getting buffed. I won't be able to jump in for real until Wed.

Given how responsive GGG has been if it is excessive I imagine it will be adjusted quickly.

Life = change.

is feedback not desired here?

Feedback would require testing first though right? All I'm saying is lets see how it all works in practice, GGG has always been very responsive.

Will the elemental damage from later difficulties be nerfed? because otherwise, this change will just force most classes to take a lot of health nodes, decreasing even more the amount of builds viable.
'wait and see' - sigh
Don't be silly guys. Why do you discourage comments on upcoming change? Of course we didn't test it yet, but do you really think GGG doesn't know this? Do you think threads should be locked upon creation in suggestion section too? Come on. There is nothing wrong with thinking about things that didn't happen (yet). Actually, if you went this way, how would you create anything new? How would people invent anything? I see it everywhere "wait until you test this", "wait until GGG does that", "wait, wait, wait". Let me live. I will share my opinion with GGG because they have these forums and obviously want people to do so. Thanks. And sorry for off topic. I will think and add another paragraph on topic in a minute.

In my previous post I used somewhat humorous way to express my feelings about the change. I could simply write 'melee is getting hurt more than other styles'. But I wanted to be more specific. I also tried to imply my opinion on the negativee effects of this change by asking master Yoda whether we were still going the right way.

I don't think the change itself is wrong. The resistace penalties make sense. But they also break already broken balance even more. It is something that should be taken care of. Or the only melee we will see in that league will be groundslamstyle, again. I would love to see something making the real pure melee style attractive, not only challenging.

Yes, I know, I always bring up melee style in my posts. I simply feel that melee is not getting enough attention so I took it as my quest to bring it up everywhere I open my mouth. Keyboard. You know what I mean.

Yoda answers:
'Off course, we are.'

So you throw a random comment about 3-5 levels under content in here. My point is that it isn't going to be tested at the current content level as they are using HC as a test bed.

I really wish people would get over their fond experiences of high school debating where putting words in other peoples mouths and then debating them won them some points.
