Resistance Penalties (and a league to test them!)

I'm not sure how to respond because I was in no way attacking you or anything of that nature. I also don't understand your comment because it just doesnt make any sense to me. How is testing things in a new hardcore league going to provide less data than in the "current content level" to use your words, when an open beta is coming so you'd lose everything AKA be in a new league.

I guess that is what you mean but I'm really not sure. You seem to be relatively new around here, but generally this is a far more temperate place than other forums. I know I lurked for almost 7 months while in the beta before posting anything.

Seven months, that explains why you don't understand so I won't bother you with the complicated concepts. I am sure GGG knows what my point is.

I'll take a crack at it. I come to these forums to provide feedback because I feel as though I might have something to offer, not to spew nonsense, and to hopefully counter those who tend to spew nonsense.

So far from what I can glean, you have a level 17 character. This is your only character. You are quitting until Open Beta. You will commit seppuku if Steam is required.

You can see why I might feel the need to lend my voice in opposition to your points given that I frankly don't understand how you know what the current viable end game is like when you have not experienced it in any way that I can see.

I think this change is extremely positive and if you had taken the time to read through the thread, they would see that most concerns aka talent trees are either directly addressed by Chris or are being looked at.

I think it would be well to remember this is a beta, and what God (Chris) giveth can be taketh away. As for the default vs hardcore argument for the testing ground, hardcore is where "exploitative, easy. cheap, overpowered" or in other words well thought out builds go to shine, and then we all see they work and Jonathan copies it and then it is nerfed into the ground.

GGG has made a place in my heart where I thought nothing would ever be. They made flowers grow where I cultivated only stones and dust. I for one, trust Chris and GGG to do what is right for the game with our constructive feedback.
"When I close my eyes, I see this thing, a sign, I see this name in bright blue neon lights with a purple outline. And this name is so bright and so sharp that the sign - it just blows up because the name is so powerful... It says, "Diamond Supporter."
Someone meantioned earlier on here how buffing the resists the bandit by adding a set % and by adding to the max resists by a %. I think this might be a way to compensate for the loss of the variety of builds due to the patch.
So many build ideas... no time....
The 0.9.12k patch is completely full of resists to help players. It will be deployed before the one week race (maybe a lot earlier).

Is there going to be a tree reset with this patch? Because If there is going to be some mass resistance debuff in Merciless I'm going to want to get some nodes for this. To be honest I would have got some IF there was any in the Shadow area of the tree!

At the moment I have 75% across all 3 resists but it takes both rings, my amulet my belt and 2 other items with some resist on them to achieve this...

If you want people to properly test the new resists a tree reset is 150% (see what I did there) neccesary.

EDIT: If I'm honest though I was playing with bugger all resistances when I first hit merciless and still didn't die... i just had to be ridiculously careful. Lightening and fire would destroy me and being frozen meant trouble (hence the dream frags purchase...). But yea i would just be very very cautious and didn't really have any major issues...

As the person above me said do we get a full skill refund?

This is a major change and i think we deserve this at least.
FFA loot = Single Player Game
With the patch that brings the resist change, I would hope to see a skill tree reset and a bandit rewards reset, because such a change will greatly affect how people look at both.

0.9.12k has been deployed.

We'll have a passive skill wipe with 0.9.13, which is probably when we'll enable the resistance penalties for the normal leagues.

Hi Chris I see that all the resistance nodes in the Marauder area have been increased, why didn't you guys do the same to the Celestial Walker node (10% all resistance) in the Templar area ?
do minions suffer the same resistance penalties? planning for hc week.

Well, Diamond Skin notable would be the comparable to Celestial Walker, and that didnt get changed either. Through buffing the normal resist nodes, Diamond Skin went from about 6 points worth of resists down to 3, much more reasonable power for a notable. Celestial Walker went from about 4 points worth of resists down to 2, and still has 10% elemental damage (worth 2 normal elemental damage passives). So really, the indirect nerf affected Diamond Skin (6 points worth down to 3) more than it did Celestial Walker (6 points worth down to 4).

The notables were already much, much stronger than the normal resist nodes, doubling the normal nodes brought the gap down some, but the notables are both still very strong.
