4Th time trying to dl. It stops working after awhile if internet drops for just a second. Then I have to start all the way back to the beginning. The client should really have it continue downloading where It left off. 100kb a second average here in NY.

It does start from where it left off (the total size lowers each time)

Sad that it's still so disgustingly slow today....many hours after launch. So much for hoping for better speeds after traffic has slowed. Luckily I downloaded on home computer last night w/o issue...

However today trying to update another computer and oh my god.

You know you can copy the content.ggpk from one pc to another?

It's the problem I highlighted before. If everyone's getting ridiculously slow speeds, then everyone gets stuck in the download for that much longer, keeping everyone at the same slow speed for that much longer.

I started my download immediately upon the patch being posted, and only finished it a few hours ago (not exactly sure when. I was asleep at that point, but it was still 400 megs to go 7 hours ago, after having spent around 12 hours to get the first 1.4 gigs). So that's about the fastest anyone in my area could have gotten the download done. The first wave is slowly clearing out, but that wave was so long that it'll still be slow for a good long while.

If any of the GGG guys are still reading this thread, when you guys do your post-mortem on this patch, here are some thoughts that might be helpful:

(1) Your CDN is performing better in some geographic areas than others. If you continue to use this distribution method, you need to talk to them about why Europe has plenty of extra bandwidth and the US is still starved. I sincerely hope you guys didn't pay them extra for more servers that they proceeded to allocate to all the wrong places. The CDN should have realized that they had maxed out to some regions and had extra in others, and reacted accordingly. Figure out why they didn't. I know this is hard because you're dealing with a third party, but if you're paying them good money then they should be giving you good performance.

(2) You might consider distribution methods other than/in addition to the CDN, or workarounds if they can't figure out a way to better balance their bandwidth. Is it feasible to integrate a P2P option into the client? Is it feasible to integrate a "choose your mirror" option into the client, so we don't need to resort to VPNs to fool the server? Either of these options would probably help the situation a lot.

(3) Some sort of priority and/or queuing system would decrease the average user's time spent waiting to play. If it's not feasible to get bandwidth high enough/well-allocated enough, then you should consider whether this is desirable. It's a tradeoff: people actually do get into the game faster, but they will feel like they're getting nowhere until the download takes off. I, for one, prefer to see "You are user X of Y in line. Please be patient, your download will begin shortly" over immediately starting an incredibly slow download. I don't know if I'm typical.

3 hours of downloading last night and another 8 hours today and finally i'm almost finished with the patch lol.
Worst patch I've yet seen in this game. Thanks for making me lose 4 auras of the 6 I was running before and thanks for another Inner Force nerf because that's what we've been asking for all along.

However today trying to update another computer and oh my god. Oh well I'm confident GGG will not let this happen next time and will have a different approach for large updates.

Chris you should get a refund from the CDN you have now.

Do what I did. After 15 hours of download, my computer finished. My 3 roomates wanted to start downloading. I just copied "content.ggpk" from the updated computer on my external hard drive and then pasted it on the other computers. Took 5 minutes for the first 2 pc. My last roomate had decided to uninstall the game, he still had 17 mb to download, took him half an hour but still faster than downloading the whole patch.

Sounds like a very good patch, can't wait to test out Reave:) and also does the art size reductions(smaller/faster) come at any cost to graphics quality? and i cannot wait to see the surprises you guys must have in store for release :D it's sooooo exciting that it is so close now, great job guys!

I'm in US and the patcher is still very slow. I'm averaging around 100KB / sec.

yesterday it was dial up speeds.

Your CDN needs to level up a few times.
