I kinda like having to click and fight over 6 sockets. But making it allocated to a specific player is fine by me.

I think this is a great change. Thank you GGG. There are also lots of great ideas as to alternatives to the EXP loss for dying. What I find amusing is how so many people on this forum think that non-hardcore players are all chumps who whine, play glass-cannons, don't have the proper strategy, try to faceroll bosses, and who are not being properly punished for dying. Wanna see a good post? See Schlowski's post from page 8 or 9 I think. I too am 47 and when I'm lucky to get play 2-3 hours a day. That's a lot of time for me and I don't consider it casual. Personally I don't think hardcore is all that hardcore until a Log Off system is in place.. but I wouldn't try to dictate my feelings on another gamer who doesn't play the way I do.
I also play self-found. You want a real hard gaming experience? No trading. I have a level 73 Marauder and leveling takes forever. I have no 6L items. I've never found an Exalted. Heck, I've never seen a Divine. I have to proceed very slowly. When I dies it hurts... but a 15% penalty can wipe out a couple hours of gameplay... which is all I get per day. So yes, it feels excessive... especially when the reason is desync. (Not that that's the only reason I die.) I too would be happy with 5%/10%... 15% is just too high. So I appreciate the change. And I also think it would be great to see how forum member's play... maybe with a title under their avatar. I'd love to see how many other players are self-found, untwinked. |

People saying this is a bad idea have clearly not gotten into the higher end maps and died because of desynch, just imagine that thought of buying a shipyard (3 Ex Standard) then spending 5-10 Chaos To roll it up nicely and within the first couple minutes you desynch horribly and die to something that normally would have never killed you. Now not only have you lost the 3 Exalteds and 5-10 Chaos you've actually lost alot more then that because now you have to go and grind that 15% back, and in a level 77 map mazed at level 90 I'm only gaining about 4%.
So before you go whining about this adjustment, take a second and do the math on that and remember, you still haven't ran the map you were trying to run in the first place, so lets add another 3 Ex+ onto there, that in short is why I've actually decided to take a break from PoE for a little while, not only because of the exp penalty (I don't die very often and when I do it's usually from desynch or horrible lag caused from Fireball for some reason..) in all honesty trying to grind that currency up just to roll a few maps and gain a bit of exp seems very trivial now when I've been playing this game since CB and have yet to find any unique and or currency item that sells for more than 2 Exalteds, so with those systems combined it's basically like running on a hamster wheel, I may be able to build up a bit of muscle (level ever so slowly) but I'll never actually get anywhere in that vicious cycle. Wow, so lame. Please do not go down the road of making the game progressively easier and easier in order to attract a wider audience. Death needs to matter in all leagues.

I too vote for 5%/10% penelty, this seems better to me. One idea I had however was utilising something similar to corpse collection in d2, where the player could potentially retrieve a large portion of their lost XP with an assumed risk. Obviously the same corpse collection concept from d2 would be a very harsh assumed risk in PoE since you would have NO ITEMS but maybe the risk could be a penelty to armour/evasion/ES, and all resistances untill collection of the Xp or untill the instance in which the player died closes. Just an idea. I do however love that 6 sockets will be allocted! FREAKING AWESOME!
