Death Penalty Changes in 0.11.3

would be good if the people arguing against the reduction qualified how it will affect them personally. I only scan threads but my hunch is that the only people that complained about the 15% XP penalty before were those ready to quit in frustration at the impact it was having on their progress.

Most interested in hearing from people in that "15% XP loss is killing me, I'm gonna quit" group. The rest of us either don't die enough for it to matter or play hardcore.
There has to be a low point where some people stop complaining because it's just not worth it, and I have yet to see it. - Squeakypaw, 2013

All damage and no life makes Jack a reckless fool...So lets give the baby a helmet (exp nerf) so he stops crying...

Are you going to give them a blanket and hot cocoa while you are at it GGG? If you are dying 5-6 times to the same mob...MAYBE YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG!!!

people already ding to next level before attempting shit cause they are too scared to lose exp. They should be scared. They don't get kicked from their previous league when they die. So exp loss, no matter how great, is a good thing to have in place.

You don't have to be a hardcore player to not die. You just have to stop doing stupid shit. Stop cycloning into lightning thorns. Stop going balls to the wall dps on reflect mobs. Stop trying to do shit you aren't geared enough to tackle. These are just a few things that if people would learn, they would have a smoother gaming session.

Guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks though....

This doesn't affect me on HC. I'm surprised how opinionated some people are about this subject.

If you really want a harsher penalty, I guess you could just go suicide after your first death to double the penalty. But you want a level playing ground with other players, so you won't do that..
8% is more reasonable on merciless, I do agree once your really high level, 15% really does get retarded, on very high levels, one death can set you back days, which is actually a harsher then it looks penalty, nowhere near HC, but it's still harsh, for that particular league at least.
One more thing to add

To the guys bitching about the reduction -> you have the option of Hardcore league, if you find normal one too easy for you!
Actually something that has been bugging me for a while now, people have been mentioning that players have been leaving POE in droves but the only evidence I've heard on this subject is some people saying most of their friends have quit, which as anyone who has done statistics knows that such evidence is not statistically significant.
Is there some sort of resource people have used to determine that this is the case or are these claims simply hyperbole or otherwise just unsubstantiated claims from angry players or people who have heard someone else say it and therefore assume it to be truth as all information on internet forums is always true (possibly sarcasm).
I'm not saying that it isn't the case, I just want to know what evidence people who claim this to be a fact have.

My impression was that these were mainly people who were used to the standard-fare modern ARPG: Pay $60 up front, Faceroll everything in sight for a month, then on to the next. I didn't want that...and said so with my checkbook.
Many of these complaints were also accompanied by the garden-variety "blahblahblah...desynch...blahblahblah" rant.

Again, I am very concerned that this change signals that GGG is throwing in the towel on ever fixing desynch, and they are simply trying to lessen the pain of a death. Hope not, but that notion won't go away.

i am happy with the xp changes. I'm in the 70's and one death can mean losing a few maps worth of experience.

Also the 6 socket thing bothers me not. I see so few of those drop anyway.

Funny how people whine about it when they have the CHOICE not to play in "easy" or perma mode.
As someone who has played both HC and SC, and lost high lvl characters on HC, dying with a 75+ character on SC can be VERY frustrating. When I died on HC, it was just like 'ok, time to reroll', but when I die on SC it's more like 'I just wasted 4 hours of griding'.

It's a good change. People wanting a challenge have HC, others can have fun on SC, and still have some death penalty.
