Great post OP. This game rocks To the one whiner complaining about their last few hours of playing... that's just how it is my friend. Often we get to a point where our characters hit a brick walk because of a flaw in our build design. Learn and reroll. This is what adds to the replay value. Total opposite of D3 where you just swaps skills and buy gear. Tin foil hats are a lie propagated by the aluminium industry.

I have the same story as you, except have failed to convince any of my friends that its a good game.
I get no respect :( | |
" You probably got killed by a creature that punctured you or one of the viper creatures that does puncture + poison damage. Either way you can watch your health go from 100% to < 10% real fast and if you take another hit or the puncture is a critical hit you can die from it. I have a Shadow Ranger that gets killed that way from the viper creatures in the Vaal Pyramid (especially the rare one) and it is quite frustrating to be killed many times and have to start the pyramid run again. I also have to be very careful with a Duelist ranger in the Sarn Market and Warehouses to stay out of range of the creatures that perform a spin move kick attack as they can get critical hit punctures on that character. The only defense (other than good kiting skills to stay out of range) is to have high resistances (ok, that's a no brainer but always true) and to have a health flask that provides 50% of its health instantly as the bleeding damage can sometimes be faster than the flasks health restore speed. That is extremely frustrating when you are pressing (beating) on the number keys all at once and your health is still going down to death from a critical puncture wound. Other than getting pissed that I just got killed and taking a break (get a snack, a drink, etc.) I've been playing PoE enough hours over the last 8 months to not want to rage quit PoE and QQ here in the forums that "this game sucks" and "I've had it with PoE". With my earlier mistakes and deaths I was more likely to want to rage quit especially if you play HC and experience your first death (mine was with a level 49 Duelist in the Cruel Western Forest and was totally my own fault). But now I have enough PoE experience so that I learn from each death and become a better player with my next build. I suggest you read my reply to some one else QQing and having a death tantrum. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/430430/page/2#p3795910 As for dieing due to lag there really isn't much you can do about it unless you are fortunate to live where you have a choice of your Internet service provider. I personally am very fortunate to be a partner in my own Internet service here in Fort Myers and Cape Coral, Florida and we use wireless technology so my home Internet connection from where we 3 play PoE has a 10 Mb down / 7 Mb up connection and with < 100 ping times to the US PoE game servers in Dallas Texas. I know that the typical CenturyLink DSL service is 3 Mb down / 768K up (on a good day and if they aren't over subscribing your area) and that "sucks donkey" (Wayne's World) for playing PoE or any on-line game. Comcast cable is better but wireless technology (if fast enough) is way better at keeping lag to a minimum which is critical to keeping desync from ruining enjoyment of playing PoE. " Have any of your friends ever played any other arpgs? D1, D2, TL1, TL2, etc? (Please take note that I have conspicuously left off D3. That should tell you how bitter we are about it but mostly it's the devs and their treatment of the players.) If any of your friends have played any other arpgs that's a plus in enticing them to try out PoE. One thing to make clear to them up front is that there is no "instant gratification" when playing PoE. PoE is going to take some time to get the feel and flow of the play mechanics and the do's and don't. Usually the do not do this is followed by an "OMG or WTF I just died" moment so expect this and don't QQ or rage quit over this. For this reason I suggest you play the Anarchy League so you can continue on with your party after some one dies. My 2 friends that I'm partying with now are playing the Anarchy League for just this reason. We've just defeated General Gravicius last night and are poised to make the Lunaris Temple run to kill Piety next. I have not been killed once with my Duelist elemental archer but my 2 friends have each died 6 or 7 times getting here. Since they are new to PoE (they started playing 2 weeks ago) they have a lot to learn and only ask for my help occasionally as they want to find out most things in PoE and Wraeclast for themselves (quite understandable, the new adventure feelings are high within them). So if your friends are into the whole D&D type of adventure and are willing to put in enough hours playing PoE and don't expect instant or immediate results and are not of the "entitlement" generation then keep working on them by showing your enthusiasm of PoE and talking it up (that's how I did it with my friends) and I hope you can get a party together. GGG talks up and encourages us to play PoE in a group and until I had the opportunity to group play I was just solo playing PoE so didn't know how much more satisfying PoE party play is until 2 weeks ago. GGG is right, PoE is best enjoyed when played as a group activity instead of solo (I still solo HC and love it, even if I eventually die). The added benefits (and not just from interacting with my friends but that in itself is great) do shine through and make playing PoE even more fun. And no, I'm not a secret GGG employee hyping PoE in the forums. I'm just an appreciative fan of their programming of a great arpg and their story telling. Thank you GGG. Keep up the great work. ps. Keep adding new things to increase the amount of backstory as you can. Having more history of why we are exiled to Wraeclast, who the locals are and how and why they have come to reside in Wraeclast adds major depth and increases the total immersion experience while playing PoE. " Thanks. I'm sick and tired of the QQ posters and their whining over whatever caused their last death. But yesterday I decided to do more than just tell that person "ok, so quit already" or "goodbye and good riddance" type of troll response. See here: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/430430/page/2#p3795910 With more useful information to help newer players maybe we will see fewer rage quit posts (or just wishful thinking and nothing will change).
