I don't think you fully understand, yet.
Digital and phsysical goods have been made. The choice is already made by GGG. An apology won't do it. There is no sale strategic choice doing that. The best market solution w.r.t. old customers would be to make a discount system. Hey you spend so much in the past, due to being a loyal customer of our company we like to draw your attention to our new product, which we can sell at you for a discount. This is the very basis of selling subscriptions. GGG is known for discount tricks, they also did a stash tab deal going from CB to OB, so they do seem to value the company - customer relation.

Tricky bit here are the new customers. Normally this communique would be best done in private and through an pre-existing customer account system. A discount to old customers can be perceived now as bias. Thus the smart market move would be to sell the first 3 days at a 10% discount, such that new customers also had a discount option. This is all about how customers perceive products and their relation with a company. Since GGG are quite open and sell their products in an emotional way (thank to your support we can develop this game) you are likely to create an attached customer base (but not every customer will respond this way).

Anyways for most options it is a bit too late and the best choice for GGG is to do whatever gives them now the best revenue.

What they could announce now is that it is likely that in the future packages such as these are made more often (season package/ holiday specials) and that purely the pets and forum title stay unique, but having a forum title is not an unique.

If a discount or more open communique doesn't work for you than that is too bad. Unfortunately you and exorzist might not feel comfortable, with a deal. This is unfortunate, feeling understandable, but don't expect that things will be redone to cater to you. All you can hope for is a good deal or for a different approach by GGG in the future. It is also possible they lose customers.

I do like to note that since there is no subscription system in place or good track record, most revenue comes from new players. As the product is, people who already spend a fair amount of money will become less likely to do so in the future.

The best example on my previous post is the discussion about the ferari between tachi203 (you) and iamacyborg. Both of you clearly have a different perception on the product up now and the product you purchased in the past. Neither one of you is wrong. Who is wrong? Perhaps GGG is slightly wrong, because they failed to use marketing tricks as I mentioned to work on the customer relation.

Having options to upgrade your products would also help. This means current weapon effects get a similar upgrade, or a cheap upgrade options are possible in the future. You could also choose to sell the new style as new products. The choice here is between direct revenue and the customer experience. A good customer experience might yield more revenue on long term, while making sale choices for more revenue now, could cause bad customer experiences. My favorite topic the dual strike weapon effect. I think that is something where they can certainly reach out to customers, while probably even directly increasing their sale count as more weapon effects are bought instead of people buying the same one twice. The first option is more perceived value which means people are more likely to spend money buying credits.

Anyways I find it generally funny that after what I post the banter just continues onward. The entire discussion could be different and more mature and than probably a settlement that pleases most parties could easily be achieved.

lol, I understand you,

I am just putting up a good fight for the community.
And trying to let people know that they should prolly care alittle more about their rights and how the decisions the company makes affects them. And the probable outcome of the game.

Alittle alternative/Devils Advocate opinion never hurts, just leads to better descussion(And from the looks of it... Fresh/alternative discussion hasnt been in the forum for awhile).

Meh, Like I said. I'll live with an apology. Thats about as much compromise as my $250 worth of contribution and mistaken respect was valued at and I think it fair it gets an apology and for the others who paid out the ass and feel slightly wronged....

I know full well getting some profit loveing *Soul Crushing* capatalist business to do the right thing is pointless.

But it sure feels good to atleast be able to moan about it..... Its punishment in itself the company tolerateing/allowing my opinions to remain and be upheld by the community.
(Obviously some opinions on here dont like to see it.... But thats their problem)

Hopefully this will atleast give GGG alittle warning sign later down the track and keep them headed in the right direction with the "entire community" happy with what theyre doing.

Which benefits everyone in the long run...

But whatever,

I only brought the origonal pack for the kiwi and the hope that PoE would go F2P for all our money... :)

And now that it is... I am gonna sit here and marvel at being apart of that acomplishment :)

As GGG sells the Fakers(Open Beta Testers lol) similar perks.

Not much that can be done lol...."Its allready done".. I conceaded that way back in the topic lol :)

Now its just nagging at GGG and those insane enough to try and talk me out of being annoyed at them for this lol.

Regards.

Food for thought - if GGG were the cold-hearted capitalists you're saying they are, don't you think they'd be going with far more of a P2W system?

Either way, I appreciate being able to disagree with someone and the debate not devolving down to petty insults :)
New packs are bad ass. Great job GGG!

I feel bad for those that couldn't wait and spent all their dollars on basic points already!

Who said P2W was profitable? This seems profitable enough as it is for them....
And the economics behind this probably lasting longer with a more stable income is probably higher.

Aslong as they can keep you sheeple buying the same re-hashes...Who cares about new content....hahahahah this is a capatalist's dream!! like George lucas selling the same updated versions of star wars on different types of media and copyrighting it so that noone else can improve it...Then selling it to disney.....Or selling game moddifications only to the highest bidders....

lol...just food for thought....

Ok yeah you do get it ;), you got me there a bit. I tend to do the same if I get unreasonable responses I tend to flame and become offensive in return. Just to annoy the forum moderators and GGG so that maybe they change their forum policy. I always manage to do this on the balance line so no probation yet. Must say haven;t done it this week and I let a few opportunities slip.

Take for example the dual wield weapon effect argument. One person at least called people that brought this up whiney ptiful QQ-ers. I think his post should be immediately deleted as it is a valid argument. The only valid counter argument would be: currently technically this is not possible, or: it is better that dual wielders buy the effects two times, no matter the cost. I see this as the best sales strategy GGG can do." Instead you have to live with the pathetic flame and total non discussion. Seriously moderation could step a lot as far as I am concerned. I do feel like still quoting this guy and turning on the flame war only way to get a thread completely cleaned up it seems :D

No they are not, but I think from my post it is a fair observation they could have done better and more considerate. They are certainly capable of doing that and they have shown in the past, but I think they slip up here. I also think making deals for existing customers is something they should look at. Entice me to spend another $50, I think something could have been done with these support packs in that regard. It is all about mental game. (btw in before people calling me cheap and a beggar. Fact is everyone would like to get a deal others can not, or to get a deal at all).

Example is the take-out Chinese I often go to. I am a regular customer so I get some freebies with each meal. Than other people sometimes get pissed they don't get the same, but I am getting rewarded for coming there so often. If this game doesn't draw in new players or "new money" than building a good relation with existing customers can be very important and they missed an opportunity here. They took that opportunity with the stash tab dealio form cb to ob.

Existing customer deals, make them spend money again by giving them a deal.
Pre-order bonus
1 year subscription, cheaper per month than 1/2 a year
If we sell so many of X, everyone will get Y as a bonus.

There are so many tricks in the books to use. That area nice gesture between client and company.

One of the things I am also still annoyed with is the damn archaic stash tab transaction effect system in the game and a total lack of a proper ingame-store. I think GGG should get something done here prior to the full game launch. It won't be much game content, but purchase experience is better and they can better advertise their products for once. There is a fair portion of game crowd that don't visit the website at all. Even if a button in the game makes a window pop up.

Seems not that they are bad guys at all, in fact even nice, but they are not strategically "nice." That might be something they are lacking. Earlier in the thread Chris mentions some point swapping is possible to get a discount to a purchase. This seemed more on a hindsight, but a lot could have done in preperation

Actually, if they were smart capitalists, they would never go for a P2W system since overwhelming majority of their community is against it - that means less revenue in the long run. Instead, they would keep extremely warm relationship with their players and play on their hearts rather than their brains. They would make themselves out in a poorer light, frequently mention how they are just scraping by due to paying all the costs and that they really hope to get some more revenue in the future to keep making the content for a game they really really love.

Of course, that's only if they were calculating, manipulative capitalists.

Sidenote: There is no way designing a new monster actually costs 12,5K. Assuming development is ongoing and more areas with more monsters will be introduced in the future, the monster that the player designs will simply take the space of another monster in an appropriate area, that would have to be developed. Therefore yes, you have to create a monster now, HOWEVER, you save yourselves the costs of developing one in the future. And considering how long it takes for custom items, custom monsters will probably come alongside their new areas anyway.

So the only additional costs to making a player-inspired monster are the costs incurred in communicating with the player and fine-tuning everything to a slightly different standard. Definitely not 12,5K.

Did you not notice the regular patches for the Free to play game that have been adding skills, content, and cool events?

They are a business, but I don't know if the money they've made so far has even covered the development costs - I'm happy to keep supporting them as I've spent more time playing this free game than D3 & Torchlight 2 combined.
