I am curious how many players will never come back after the new "league" launch in poe 2

Poe 2 early access was launched on 6th of december 2024. They game was incredibly hyped and everyone had really high hopes. Some were already calling it the best arpg ever. However from what we are seeing now many people believe its a far worse game than poe 1.

Considering steam numbers the game had 570 000 players logged in on launch. This number has plummeted to approximately 40 000 players right now. In my opinion many players and even some popular streamers have concluded that they dont like poe 2 and wont even be trying the next "league". In my opinion the game is so different and so much worse in many endgame aspects that its beyond repair and I completely lost the will to login. I am currently enjoying completely dead hc trade settlers league.

I would guess the next "league" will initially have around 400 000 players on day 1 but the numbers will plummet even faster then after launch.

What is your guess?

250-300k at release dropping to under 100k within a week

in other words same numbers PoE1 league would have generated with FRACTION of dev time investment ...
It will absolutely be interesting to see. There's so much we don't know:

How many of those 5-600K players are "league players", wanting a reset every 3-4 months?

How many will stay now that the honeymoon period is (clearly) over?

How many players will try the 0.2.0 update and see that nothing much has changed, for them to log off?

Will new classes increase the MUCH needed build diversity?

Will they do anything about the stupidly bad map layouts?

Is running BAD map layouts just for the hope of buffing the two-three good layouts a viable longevity tactic?

Is NO player agency going to last?

Will PoE 2 be released in 6-12 months, even though they haven't released a single one of the missing classes or ascendancies in 3-4 months?

And will PoE 1 suffer even more when they realize they have to crunch for several months?

This will be interesting.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.
PoE 2 has a bit of an issue.

It doesn't really appeal to a lot of PoE 1 players but also doesn't appeal to players coming from other existing ARPGs which is fine as it does appeal to a new niche. PoE 2 will probably go through the same dev stages as PoE 1 did 10+ years ago.

We'll likely see quite the big drop of players even with 0.2 launching but a slow increase over time and a bigger jump upwards on full release.

As for me, I don't care what happens to PoE 2. In fact, I couldn't dislike it more as it actively hinders PoE 1 now and the audience it has built so far is fairly hostile and nothing I would want to be a part of.
Right now, I much prefer POE1 to POE2. So, I am not even sure I will play 2.0.2.0. Might just wait until 1.3.26 in June.

I have hope that POE2 will get better, but today, I just don't enjoy it as much.

I know some of you vehemently dislike Poe2, that's fine. You have right not like it, but what you say can easily be disproved with facts.

It started at 578k on launch (December 6 2024) (steam) and didn't drop down to less than 100k on February 18 2025.

LUL like I know most of you who dislike Poe2 just assume ur feelings are facts, but you can at least check the actual facts before making stuff up.

I'm actually surprised these many people are still playing the game considering it's current state, and $30 entry fee.

This shows the game has some serious staying power and once it gets more updates it could be massive. Full release and being free will potentially be flooded and I'm willing to bet it will pass EA numbers by a huge margin.

You''ll never know, cause those that truly 100% dont like what GGG has done, won't come back at all. And are not the ones that are going to post here ever,
GGG - Why you no?

Also, what other games (in and out of the ARPG genre) will be hot and new when Deuce .20 drops? Pretty sure the vast herds of, shall we say, recreational visitors, will have long since moved on to those and other things. =^[.]^=

Uuuh, I like that.

A lot of these "recreational visitors" will undoubtedly have moved on, and I seriously doubt 0.2.0 will bring in close to the numbers we saw in December. Time will show, though. It will be interesting to see, that's for sure. Wonder what will happen when (if) certain forum warriors won't have huge numbers to back things up.
