POE 2 melee combat is PEAK and I don't think this is being properly valued
I see almost no one valuing the quality of POE2 melee combat.
The melee quality that mace brought to this genre objectively killed every last bit of desire I had to play D4. I've been a melee player for over 20 years in any game I've played. Hitting without having your characters locked in place was one of D4's greatest achievements and this was the only game that had this until a certain time. In early access I had the opportunity to try mace as warrior, the mechanic of hitting while moving exceeded all my expectations. I hope sword and axe are similar to mace movesets in terms of mechanics. For me this was revolutionary, the feeling of playing as my warrior in POE2 is vastly superior to my feeling playing as my barbarian in D4. Monk/quarterstaff Ice strike and Tempest Flurry are fine, but Falling thunder is not that good, feels clunky. The BEST THING in POE2 is definitely its melee combat, by far. yeah, mace pace is really cool, but not fit the full game, especially with the most poor defense.
When you play in a party, you will feel you really weak,it sucks. I wish the whole game can be slow down nerf these attack speed to move skills, nerf these long range damages,do some creative work to become a ARPG not a RPG,but these players from poe1 don't think so. But finally,it will be decided to GGG,whatever,RPG is not bad,but there is only one choice at endgame.Balance. |

I agree. I got a lot of fun with my Cultist Mace Titan. It is smooth even on T15 maps.
I guess it is not so well known because the game lacks "Splash" gem (except through Cultist Mace), so people are using Mace Strike mostly for bosses only. About defenses, I disagree that it lacks. I mean, other strategies are clearly OP, but you still can reach with cheap items more than 4k life, >80% resist and >50% block chance. That is more than enough to do any content this game has to offer currently. |

The only thing PoE2 got right was bosses and Melee.
I really like both those things, is why I get so upset about the HUGE glaring obvious and downright terrible problems with PoE2. Both temporary EA things, and "The Vision" Then again, if they fuck up the greatsword, I won't care anymore. (Insert Berserk quote here) |

Mechanically, it is the best combat out of any ARPG I've played (barring Lost Ark, but that's also an MMO).
Actually, the most fun I had with melee was my early monk relying on a combination of Palm skills to build charges for Falling Thunder. The problem is... That stopped working halfway through Act 2. The way most late and endgame (even mid game) encounters are structured doesn't favor melee. Hordes of small enemies and spammy AoE one-shots from bosses. I wish they'd focus more on the initially promised methodical campaign progression, instead of pushing the traditional mass-clear-waves-for-big-loot-drops before we've even reached endgame. |

" obviously you never play in a 6 mans party, maybe your solo is near enough, but in party even 10k one shot line is in danger,4k with melee and slow attack?you will die every map at high level(t16+). Even worse, your damage is not enough in it as well, when others still can one shot mobs over a screen |

I have to kind of agree. I dont think melee combat is in the best place from a balance perspective, but it is the most fun to play. I was hesitant to start a warrior due to everyone bitching about it, but its been a ton of fun. The big aoe slams and chunky contact are super satisfying. My monk is infinitely better from a "clear the content" perspective, but the warrior is just a good time. They just need to figure out the dmg/def balancing for a class that has to be up close and personal all the time. The risk/reward factor definitely tils way too far in the wrong direction.

" don't worry, warrior is weak only in party, for a solo player it's totally enough with mace, just don't use all armor pieces but armor and es piece, which will make you about 3500-4500+hp and 2500-3500+es with grim feast,it's low budget. armor is really weak because it actually trade off ONLY physica damage reduction to one shot line for all kinds of damage. melee peaks around t10 maps.
After that it is extremely slow and weak. Though not including herald of ice or thunder, haven't test that. It just lacks a screen clear ability. Which you may say, you don't want to do that, you want to hack and slash and spin and dance. And you can. But ultimately in POE, people want to clear the screen. |
