Is this a trading game or an arpg?

I played for 150 hours and got to level 82. I spent most of this time on the trade system, because I couldn't drop or craft a single item to equip (I'm talking about an item of quality that can play endgame content).
For example, a body armor with a Spirit add-on or a helmet that grants a minion level has never dropped for my character. (I even wanted to push my luck and got equipped with 150%+ IR items) If I had used the drops and didn't trade at all, I wouldn't even be able to complete a level 1 map within the Atlas system. The game forces me to trade and I spend hours and hours, even reaching out to someone to buy is a pain because most of them don't respond and it can take hours to find someone who does. Those who do not respond to an item for sale and those who waste time should definitely be banned in the trade system. I wonder if I'm really unlucky and shouldn't keep playing the game, or instead play a racing game or something? How is this situation with you? Well i was gonna jump in and defend the game , but the best thing you could do right now is just wait for 1.0 and see where they take the game .

Of the 250+ hours I've put into the game I'd say a small fraction has been spent trading. Maybe 10ish? Wish is pretty reasonable considering I look for very specific items with specific rolls on them and I also sell and enjoy engaging with the trade system. As for the people who don't respond it could be a couple things. First the seller may not know the value and then get 100+ whispers instantly, this has happened to me a few times. So finding your message in that bunch would be a mess. Second though you also have fixers trying to run the market. Best practice is understanding the value you of what you're trying to buy, so you understand those 1ex whispers are not going to be responded to. As for the gear drops all three of my characters I've taken to end game could easily breeze through T1 maps without trade. T15,T16,T17,T18 are where I needed to maximize some of my gear choices. I do agree however that the gear drop pacing does not seem properly tuned with the rate you reach end game, especially for a first time player who is also trying to figure out their build. PoE2

Trading is currently just too powerful in POE 2.
If you don't want to spend a lot time trading, just play SSF. Many SSF POE 2 players find that mode more fun in the current state of economy and trading anyway. I hope we will see some changes to rarity and currency drops soon enough. |

The trade system is a bit of a joke and completely unnecessary with all the whisper steps, trade site, etc.
And yes, playing SSF means you will be grinding hard with very slow progression, until you hit a point in endgame where you start getting one shot much more often which will discourage you from playing. There may be experienced players who can make it deeper into endgame but eventually everyone will end up getting one shot and being forced to the trade site. SSF is not fun in this game what so ever as you get past mid endgame. Last Epoch has an amazing crafting system. Diablo 4 copied it. GGG doubled down on its archaic system and removed anything deterministic making it pure gambling. WTF? |

I was running till T6 maps completely fine without a single bought gear piece and I don't even play meta builds. If you claim that T1 is impossible without trading then, well, skill issue.

Yes PoE 2 is indeed a Trading Loot Game and you gotta catch all them uniques into your Pokestash
