Is GGG struggling??

Is that why armor packs alone are $42.00 or more?

Seems weird to me. I mean, if these prices were like 1/5 of what they are, I could see myself spending more money (than the $0.00 I'm spending now). I could see myself throwing $100, right now, if I felt like it got me far.

But it doesn't.

It's not like they have to keep producing these assets. They already did that part. Now they're just having an automated system send people the lines of code to enable using those assets on their character. Some of these skins and effects are nice, but there's no way they're multi-million dollar assets. If you wanted to kit out a character with skins and spell effects, it would cost you about $500, maybe more.

Nobody finds this crazy? Or is this a popular topic?

That's just a flat out wrong statement... Good job

To the OP that thinks they already have the assets for mtx and that it is just a some line of codes to enable them; No, they can't just do this with lines of code. They have to be adjusted(both looks, quality), in some case completely remodeled then rigged to all starting classes. And then through quality control before implemented. It takes time and right now other things clearly takes priority. For performance you don't want to add in too many things until the game itself is more stable. It makes it far easier to avoid unforseen issues.

The prices for mtx have always been high. It is what covers the cost for the entire company. It has to be like this. If a certain amount of people struggle to buy the smallest packs it is pretty clear that they don't rely on those people to pay for the game from league to league, nor do they want to? Nor do we want to. It wouldn't be sustainable. It is far better that that group can play for free and that the top half or even the whales pay for everything.

You ask for lower prices but fail to realise the impact it would have. It would mean less devs, less content, less f2p players, less everything. You might think that lower prices would mean more customers but no, there is a limit to the amount of MTX a player would buy. At one point you would realise those customers will stop buying since their characters feel fancy enough. Maybe except the top 0.0001% that are completionists xD

This runs with the assumption that lower costs = lower income.

If that were true, Walmart woulda been outta business decades ago. But instead of that, guess what happened...

As I illustrated in the original post: With current prices, I'm spending zero dollars. With much better prices, I would spend hundreds of dollars.

That's just me. I'm one person. If you don't think a million other people are in my same boat, you'd be mistaken. You can have one whale spending $10,000 and ten thousand people spending $0.00, or you can have ten thousand and one people all spending $100. The answer is clear.

Of course I pulled those numbers out of my ass to illustrate my point, but I hope the point was illustrated nonetheless.
Wrong if a you have supporter title. They have your money too. You might not, but so many do.

MTX is just extra in the pocket.
GGG - Why you no?

Yeah that is just you, in reality the vast majority of people won't spend no matter how low the prices are and then you tanked what you can earn from the people who do spend. A lot of time & effort goes into researching price points, don't you think that if they could actually make more money by slashing the price of everything to 1/5 of the current price then that is what they would do?

No, it doesn't. They have had really good profit margins, that's why Tencent was even interested and now holds 100% of shares of GGG.

Not at all. With these prices, you will only catch the occasional whale. I actually stopped spending a single Cent for a while now, despite this being like my third account and I've spent huge amounts in the past.

It's not out of the ordinary to have several people spend upwards of $30 a month over extended periods of time, rather than the occasional whale spending $60-240 every once in a while. If you buy the basic pack every league, it works out to $15-20 a month, except it's easier for (probably) most people to spend $10 here and there than $60 upfront.

League of Legends would have went out of business years ago if that were the case as you claim.

Not sure what the exact reason is but yea prices for mtx's got a bit crazy lately.

They have always been about that price though and tencent are only a recent thing.
Still only cosmetic and tabs and neither or those would be considered aggressive

AND it's been working for them since the get go AND it is also about continuously supporting the game.

The server capacity for hundreds of thousands of people, the staff to produce leagues every 3/4 months, i would complain if it was D4 that i was playing as i would have already spent money to play the game and more money for the expansions and $65 on a horse or if there was actual pay to win/ pay to play.

Good thing you don't need to spend anything on the game.

I agree the cosmetic prices feel absurd.

But with so long running PoE1 I’m sure they have enough data to do a proper price elasticity curve and set prices to maximize total revenue. It’s pretty basic stuff anyone taking a single business course at a community college would cover.

All that’s to say: it won’t change just because we feel it’s too expensive, there are enough people willing to pay the high prices it more than makes up for the people put off by them.
