The "Beggar" Meta
" I am mostly playing SSF so I don't have much trading experience. But I would not call them dummies. To me personally I would not read the entire message. These messages usually are copied from the trade site. So when I recognize the pattern from the trade site message I simply look for the stash tab name and position. The rest is discarded. I also believe that there are different kind of people trading. The one side that sees trading more like a market in small town where you can haggle with the seller and maybe talk a bit. The other side, like myself, sees trading more like a supermarket. If I sell an item I set a price and that price is take it or leave it. I would not start haggling in a supermarket. That's just weird. So I can understand both sides. But to me personally, If someone tries to haggle, I just put them on ignore and leave the party. I am not Tujen. |

"Yes, that's the standard way to make an offer in PoE 1. It saves time for both seller and buyer, because nobody needs to leave the map to find out what's the real offer. "Exactly! Last edited by 6_din_49#4066 on Jan 4, 2025, 3:40:44 PM

IMO trade has always been the most toxic part of PoE. I don't want to get into the auction house debate. Mainly because all of us are pretty set in stone on if there should or shouldn't be and frankly it doesn't matter what we think, its what GGG thinks. But I will say, as bad as trade already is now, imagine how bad it will be when the game is 1.0, free, and we are 2-3 weeks into a league. I think the currency exchange is one of, if not the best new feature of PoE2.
I know a lot will disagree with what I said and that is fine. I wish I had the experience with trade you have to disagree with me. But I see trade being a serious issue with how popular PoE2 will be at launch based on how popular it already is. Oh one last thing with the "beggar meta". Try to be a little patient. There are going to be a whole lot of new people who won't understand the established trade expectations. Unless they are real dicks maybe try to explain to them what is expected. I listened to Raxx try to explain to newer people one night on his stream how trade is expected to be done in PoE and he had a whole lot of newer people arguing with him that he was wrong. They will learn if the vets take the time to help them. |

i would like to point out that if you get an instant whisper(or 3) does not mean your item is underprized.. i'm buying specific jewels and have live search up almost all the time
d:-D*

"Why waste time with live searches and not buy all the jewels you need at once? If 3 people try to buy the same jewel at same time, while it's cheaper then the other options on market, isn't that jewel underpriced? I'm sure one of those 3 people would offer a bit more to make sure he is the one who gets the jewel. Last edited by 6_din_49#4066 on Jan 4, 2025, 6:52:34 PM

" As was already explained for you, if you got 50 whispers in the first 2 seconds that would mean you underpriced the item. If you got a mere 5 whispers in 3 minutes, that's because you priced fairly and are currently the only active listing with a fair price. If anyone was stupid enough to buy that item and try to resell at the price of other listings, they'd only lose their money because that resell will never happen. If someone wants to flip items, they won't be able to go up to the commonly visible listing price. They'd have to go from the 50 whispers in 2 second price to the 5 whispers in 3 minutes price, still selling for less than all those standing orders. Likewise if you responded to that modicum of whispers by raising the price yourself, you won't sell it either. Because again, the price shown in the listings sitting on trade are not the value of the item. They are the leftover listings at a price nobody is willing to pay. That's why they're still there. The underpriced listing gets the 50 whispers in 2 seconds, but the fair listing doesn't stay up any longer than the underpriced one. I will not pay you 10 exalt for a filler item only worth 1. I will not pay you 20 exalt for a half decent item only worth 5. I will not pay you 30 exalt for good item only worth 10. I won't pay divines for any item worth exalts, and if I see your item worth 1 divine listed for multiple I'm just going to laugh at you. |
|
"How do you know it's worth 1-5-10 exalts? Is 10 exalts enough to craft a similar item yourself? If it's worth 1 exalt, buy it from someone who has it listed for 1 exalt, don't bother the guy who is selling it for 10. Last edited by 6_din_49#4066 on Jan 4, 2025, 7:24:06 PM

I agree with op. The trading experince in poe and poe2 could be so much better.
Imagine being about to put up items for trade or even auction through your stash and having that transaction happen immediately and without your intervention. The infrastructure to do this is there already, would greatly enhance the player experience, and has very few downsides. No idea why this keeps being put on the shelf for GGG. |
