Why dedicate my time if I can lose all my XP with a death penalty?

The satisfaction of avoiding being screwed over is not a good incentive. It only works in real life cause the police dont want you commiting crimes. Putting that level of punishment in a video game is cruelty to children.
It's not as bad as people are making it out to be. D2 has a death penalty and apparently that's the greatest ARPG of all time. There are bigger things that matter like the on death mechanics and getting 1 shot. Fix those and the XP penalty wont feel nearly as bad.

No one is forcing you to, but more importantly you can only lose "all" of your XP within a level.

You could also gain the satisfaction of overcoming the death XP and feel good about that, but it's sounding like you just want everything for free.

People would rather uninstall than have their hours of time investment deleted by this game. This "self-improvement" is an illusion. There is no such thing, PoE is a game that doesn't require much skill. All you do is copy-paste a meta build and do the safest content possible while holding down 1 button. That's it. Exp loss on death or 1 portal per map never has never will make you a better player, it only wastes time and has no purpose for existing because they're outdated mechanics. These are simple facts. There is 0 satisfaction in getting back the exp that you already earned 4 hours ago but lost to a death, only "finally I'm back where I was". 0 fun. It's just a hamster wheel.People have earned that exp, the developers taking it away and taking the whole map away on death is bad game design.

If it's so easy and requires no skill, why all the complaining about having minor penalties for your failures?

Because the game has archnemesis? Because it has random oneshots? Because its unfair? That's why.

It's the game that is killing the player with a random combination of mods and some bs and on-death effects. And it's the game that is taking away the exp, loot and map the player earned whenever they die.

Funny, rarely if ever experience those problems myself... perhaps if you worked on your build and skill a bit more you also wouldn't have major issues with such problems.

If it doesn't require much skill then you should not be losing xp, right? It's simple to not lose XP if the game is easy. Something ain't adding up here. Go play fortnite dude, you're out of touch.
Step 1 is to self reflect.
I like how charms don't work, use the freeze charm with full charges and constantly smacked with 4+ second freezes that forces you to log or die.

Your "skill issue" "git gud" arguments are meaningless. Stop blaming the players for bad game design. The game is bad. This is an objective fact. If GGG doesn't listen to the vast majority of players giving the feedback that will improve the game, then the game will die. This is an objective fact. Games are supposed to be fun, not cbt-simulators that punish you every 2 seconds for existing.

Not my fault you choose to ignore the majority of people complaining about all the problems in the game. This is a feedback forum, that's what it's for. Improving the game. Changes will have to happen for this game to survive.

It's completely unacceptable that any game in 2025 would so blatantly disrespect the player's time investment, and take away the rewards which the player has earned and rightfully deserves. That is just not ok. "The Vision" is what's going to kill this game if its tripled-down on.

Why invest hours into a game to risk losing everything with one mistake? For some, penalties add excitement, but for others, they turn fun into frustration. A simple solution? Add an option to toggle penalties—offering a challenge for those seeking it and freedom for those not. Let every player enjoy the journey their way.

For now, I’ve uninstalled the game. I’ll return if GGG realizes they’re losing players for no good reason.

They've always had xp loss and its an important part of the game. They didn't do it with POE 1 and they won't be doing it with POE 2
