Why dedicate my time if I can lose all my XP with a death penalty?
I thought the death penalty was only 10%. When do we start losing all of it in a death?

" "Losing everything". Rich statement. You make it sound like you lose your character when you die. Have you tried making fewer mistakes? If you can't make fewer mistakes, that might mean this is the ceiling for you. Progress is not guaranteed. Wraeclast should not give out participation trophies. " If they ever remove or reduce the xp penalty, I hope they also massively nerf xp gain, so that, say, from level 90 onward, plain T15s give ZERO xp and you need to do them corrupted, irradiated, and with that +1 from the bossing atlas tree. |

You can't lose all your XP. Even if you keep doing completely inappropriate content for your character and you keep dying, XP loss can only ever take you to the start of your current level. So feel free to invest as much time as you want.

" That's not what this is. People just don't want hours of their time deleted in Softcore. That is why they never click that Hardcore banner on character creation. Forcing these kinds of mechanics onto players is bad game design, this is a fact. GGG are losing so many potential players(some of them will never return) because of this, it has to change and it will. |

I don't think they are losing players over the 10% death penalty. They are losing them over the 1 death portal.

" Lol that's never happening. But they will remove exp loss below lvl90 since that was talked about in an interview. Sorry but levels on a character in a temporary league aren't some grand achievement. They mean nothing, especially when people find out ways to exp boost and sell carries for exp. Do you think anyone is actually gonna do maps if they risk losing 10% exp? Naaaahhhh they'd rather pay 5 or even 10 divines for exp carries, just like in PoE 1. So either GGG remove this pointless penalty, or the players will find a way around it as always. But most people just quit, and that's just bad for the game's profits. And stop blaming the player for everything, this isn't about "making mistakes". Exp loss or 1 portal per map never makes you a better player, the game is just senselessly punishing you for no reason at all. That's bad game design. It's completely on the devs to change this, the game is just bad. |

" Honest question. Why couldn't it be configurable? If it were, would you turn on the penalty option? Would you bother others without using the penalty option? What worries you more? Your game or others'? |

" Nope, people will quit instead of having their time wasted by this game with outdated mechanics. Diablo 2 happened eons ago, it's not some perfect game. And most people today don't enjoy on-death penalties. |

Just do what people are doing now if you are in trouble of dying and unsure, log out to character screen then log back in.

" Ok, how is that a bad thing? People should not play games they don't enjoy. This is the right thing to do. |
