Why dedicate my time if I can lose all my XP with a death penalty?
" And retention loss is accelerating over time according to steam. GGG seems to forget that the core of poe audience was successfully addicted back when the Vision was not so invasive, i.e. before poe1 3.14. First the game was much slower (so you couldn't die in 0.1sec), then zoom-zoom arrived but the player power was much more accessible with deterministic crafting. The bulk of players remained while they could avoid the Vision, not embrace it. When GGG started hammering original Harvest from every possible angle, it was the beginning of the end. In 2025 you won't increase your playerbase by randomly removing players exp and maps they had invested in, and only giving them ex slam as gear improvement. "randomly" being the keyword here, deaths in poe2 just don't feel justified when every mob is heavily randomized every map and you cannot know what kind of damage it can deal before it hits you. So unlike Elden Ring, most people will leave eventually and will feel relieved after leaving. |

13400 players on steam tonight.
I wonder if these mechanics are helping this game? A few on the forums will say yes. Looks like most everyone else is saying No. Same thing happened in PoE 1, where most players dropped off and out of the game before they hit late-game. My reason for stopping playing was XP loss, and being forced to use the trade site, craft, rather than just playing the game. Both of these absolutely piss me off. I hit a point on my Monk in PoE 2, where I needed a new weapon to progress. Cost multiple divines, didn't have one. Completely ruined the game for me. |

I agree most people new to the game don't want the exp loss. The crafting system should be revised and made simple to use. GGG look at LAST EPOCH best crafting system ever. Nice and simple to use. Keep the crafting system, the way it is in poe1 for the people who want the complex crap. If you want you game to grow you need to revise these system you keep bringing in from poe 1. Please decide if poe 2 is just a revamped version of poe 1 or is a new game. If its supposed to be poe 1 revamped fine but say so. If you want a new game to attract new players don't be afraid to change things to suit the new player base.

" A simple solution would be to invest your time into upgrading your gear propperly and/or improving your skill as a gamer....with both solutions you can reduce your virtual deaths to 0 at some point, therefore you don't have to worry about XP loss anymore. ;) Last edited by CroDanZ#1818 on Mar 26, 2025, 10:17:25 AM

Well well well, looks like those steam numbers aren't looking so good now. Seems to me that exp loss isn't a very helpful mechanic for player retention, among other horrible design choices in this game.
Let's see if/when they decide to change it instead of doubling/tripling down on it more lol |

" Youre absolutly right, ppl just have to gitgud. Player Numbers keep on dropping, but hey, whatever, everything is fine, if ppl just would gitgud, they could enjoy the game. Good thing those suckers get sorted out, huh? |
