are there really hundreds of thousands of players who will be ok with a single death bricking a map?

it's even worse in multiplayer because you loose your waystone if you are the group leader and can't go back at all, you need to wait for the rest to finish and didn't get this to count at the end, bacause you died. Straight mindblowing and not fun at all.

Not to mention that you don't see any effects causing your death ... it's a mess and makes everybody quit group play ... you can't see anything.
Yes poe 1 was a too easy joke.
No. There's absolutely no way people are okay with this.

There are only a few options that I can see: the new players who haven't reached the true endgame (think juiced T17s + max scarabs or insane essence bosses/etc) in PoE and don't understand that even the craziest build can get RIP'd once or twice while doing that content even though you can push through and finish it.

It would make balancing a complete nightmare, and even worse it makes playing it a complete nightmare. You may as well treat the game like hardcore (which MANY people HATE!) because you can softlock your progression so easily.

I have tons of issues with PoE 2, I don't even totally understand why it exists tbh- we just had record breaking Settlers league and could have used those systemic/engine improvements over there alongside the option to do WASD. However with that being said, removing the one portal death would at least make PoE 2's mapping somewhat tolerable.

For the people disagreeing, ask yourself if you've truly pushed content in PoE 1 because if you haven't then you probably need to sit this one out.

it's stressful and unfun

maps are valuable resources, so the 1-death rule means gameplay is constantly stressful, constantly facing the threat of losing something of value

by contrast, dying in the campaign was fun: each boss was a difficult challenge (until trivialised by a strong build), and repeated attempts involved practice, learning and eventual success (with no resources being wiped out as a consequence of failing an attempt)

after running a few maps very slowly and painstakingly and carefully, and eventually dying anyway to a very sudden burst of damage (rare devourer bursting up from the ground underneath me), thanks, but I'm going back to the campaign to try levelling a different class

TBH, I do not think most players even reach maps.....

Lose the poe1 SC braindead mindset and actually build some defences instead of beating it to your total DPS number. Problem solved.

Warrior with max block and 80% max cold res in a t9 map and I get one shot by a cold rare monster. Because yeah defences work.

Who are you kidding? until they fine tune the rares, defences are a joke.

Damn - one death per map?

Yikes - im not ready for that.

Anyone else get a Heroes of Might & Magic vibe from the atlas?

Thank you! HoMM. I was busting my brain trying to remember why the Atlas looked so familiar.. Guess we have HoMM fans at GGG.

Wait, you guys can run maps without "Unexpected disconnection occurred"?!

After finishing cruel three days ago, I've just finally been able to finish my 10th map. Most times it just eats the map and kicks me. Nearly unplayable.

This has been happening to me a lot recently as well. I'm now scared to use my rare waystones cause they might just get eaten.

For me the biggest problem with maps is just the weird whiplash the game does back to PoE1. During campaign you're trying to combo 8 skills together so you can do 1% of damage on a boss's HP bar but by mid maps you're back to 1 button blasting and melting bosses in 10 - 20 seconds.

It's extremely odd that the game play is 90% less complex during the end game when everything is unlocked and you theoretically have unfettered access to any skills you want to slot in - and it seems like to compensate for this so the game can remain "difficult" it just starts resorting to what can charitably called "cheap tricks" to one shot you.

I have no solution, just dumping my thoughts really.

I quit at T3. The obnoxiously long campaign right into "sorry you didnt meta build" and losing your maps. I don't ever see myself returning to PoE 2.0 until they make the game less obnoxious to play. If I wanted to feel like I am working, I would go to work. I play games to relax and enjoy my time. PoE 2.0 offers none of this to me. I am sure the sweats love it, but I don't have it in me to work 8+ hours a day, spend time with my family, and then get back to something that equates to causing me stress.

Edit: I also love how most of the people defending this garbage have zero money spent in the game via supporter packs.
