I'm pretty sure your not force to do an ascendency with the quest item, you could do it with any of the other trial soo far sakema(Sanctum) and chaos(Utilmatum) are the only 2 trial and there will be a third one later, if you dont like one you can use another trial to complete your ascendency as long it meet the requirement difficulty for that said ascendency.

1-2-3-4 floor for sakema
4-10-10+ for chaos

There no point removing something when you can use another trial to complete it anyway, some actually enjoy sanctum. It just that most player that enjoy it don't really have a reason to post about it.

Sanctum was my least favourite mechanic in every league of POE1 I've played.
I genuinely despise roguelike games. Finding that I had to do one in order to get my ascendency meant I uninstalled immediately and honestly would have gone for a refund if I'd reached this point quickly enough to still be able to get one on Steam.
