The dodge roll changes actually diminishes the combat experience

Ranged classes should never have gotten surrounded in the first place. So this roll update really only matters to two classes, and both of them needed this change. Anyone saying otherwise is objectively wrong.

What behavior should I be seeing now? Just died testing this on steam deck by trying to get surrounded and roll out. Idk if a steam deck or controller issue, but I guess I'll try on my PC tomorrow and see.

If you are completely surrounded, you still can't get out. They didn't add phasing. What they did instead was reduce player size from 1 to 0, so what that means is:
Before the change there had to be a gap between monsters that was sufficiently large for you to be able to roll through. Now you can also roll through even the tiniest of gaps.
If you are completely surrounded, there are no gaps tho, so you still can't get out.

They are. And honestly they aren't great.

If anything, dodge needed nerfs (like a small CD) rather than buffs. Buffs only promote more glass cannon-y complainers who think they must dodge all incoming damage via dodge roll spam.

This change is good. You don't always get a chance to avoid the mobs because they can come from nowhere. The alternative is to have no 'surprise' mobs or leaping monsters, so I'll take this one.

I've still been trapped a few times since the change, but it's not rage-inducing any more.
I also noticed the new dodge roll makes the ascendency trial escape rooms trivial: due to mobs not being able to easily block you anymore, you can just roll around and dodge too easily.
The dodge roll change didn't make much of a difference at all. You just get stuck on things a bit less. Still feels good to me.
I think it's a good change. Getting pinned in and trapped by mobs that can rush in out of nowhere is not a fun way to die.
