Frostbolt/Eye of Winter, Coldsnap, Cast on freeze/Cast on Crit comet Sorceress

if and when comet gets nerfed whats the future of the build? do you keep playing cold or go lighting arch mage

I'll deal with that if the time comes, as of right now the build is planned to remain cold and once I have enough crit and get cast on crit I can figure something out with that if comet gets nerfed into the ground, however even if it gets nerfed I dont see them nerfing it into oblivion.

this might be dumb but unleash on frost bolt seems to really cause a lot more frozen enemies triggering cast on freeze much more

so i basically just fire a frost wall, frost bolts and then when the coldsnap/comet hits the frost wall it is just crazy dmg

I was actually messing around with that for a while before I settled on unleash on cold snap, however I made the change to unleash on cold snap to have instant dmg for pesky mobs that decided to ignore the frost wall entirely and just swarmed me because Frost bolt doesnt do much damage and relying solely on the comet hit can be a bit frustrating sometimes with its targeting.

also frost bomb is a great way to detonate frozen walls on bosses or any stationary mob

Absolutely! Should almost always be dropping a Frost Bomb on Frost Wall it's so strong.

Fair thanks for answering, i was thinking maybe like cold snap could work, or maybe some kind or eye of winter vorted shennanigans but youre right lets wait and see!

Eye of Winter is a super cool skill to me so I plan to try and implement it somehow or maybe even hard pivot into it for damage later. I'm not sure yet but that's what I'm loving about this new experience, just trying out whatever comes to mind!

2. What do you use/plan to use for your defenses?

3. Why not take increased effect of exposure in ascendancy tree?

Hey there!

1. I started rolling cast on freeze as soon as I got it, realistically you just need to be able to support the mana cost from skills being triggered. Ice Nova would definitely work, how exactly tho I have no idea. It could trigger on travelling Frost Bolts or it could cast at your feet, there is a support for being able to cast Ice Nova on your cursor instead but I don't think that would work with cast on freeze. You'd have to experiment with that one.

2. As far as defenses go unfortunately we dont get access to much being an intelligence based class besides Energy Shield, or investing more into mana and Mind over Matter. Unless there's another option I'm not aware of for intelligence. We'd have to invest into STR for shields or armor based equipment, or invest into DEX for any evasion. Right now my plan is just going with the drops I get and trying to stack some Energy Shield to go with my HP and the bit of HP recoup I have.

3. The Increased effect of exposure is taken in the endgame planned tree! I just haven't pathed over to it yet because I feel like I just haven't needed it yet. Frost Bomb + Strip Away has done more than enough for everything in the game so far.

You might want to take a look at Pohx's cold build. He's running something similar to you. Except it's on Blood Mage, and he's using eye of winter which is great as it gives critical weakness on hit
