High CPU Usage and Low Performance in Path of Exile 2
How I Improved Performance in PoE 2 (After Several Attempts)
Hey, I faced similar issues—not game crashes, but terrible performance and stuttering. After trying multiple fixes, I finally managed to improve my experience. I wanted to share what worked for me and a few things that might be worth trying. 1. Initial Attempt: Fix from PoE 1 (Didn’t Work for Me) I first tried the fix described in this Reddit post. https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/165nkla/how_i_fixed_cpu_stuttering_on_the_latest_patch/ While several replies claimed it helped with PoE 2 as well, unfortunately, it didn’t improve anything on my end. Still, it might be worth trying for others. 2. What Worked for Me Here’s what ultimately improved performance for me: Disabling Radeon Super Resolution in AMD Adrenaline settings. Keeping AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 and Radeon Anti-Lag enabled. Switching the game engine from DirectX 12 to Vulkan. This made a significant difference. Setting the game to Fullscreen mode. (I tried Windowed Fullscreen again because I use a multi-monitor setup, but it introduced FPS issues for me cant recommend it.) Disabling the Steam overlay. I’m not sure if this had a direct impact, but others suggested it, and since I don’t use it anyway, I left it off. After applying these changes, my game performance improved significantly. While I still experience occasional frame drops below 30 FPS, they’re much less frequent and manageable. Most of the time, I stay above 100 FPS. The rare drops don’t result in deaths anymore, which was a major problem before.(because single portal maps are a good idea... xD) 3. My System Specs CPU: Ryzen 5 5600G (Yeah, I regret getting a G-series CPU; an X-series would’ve been better.) GPU: RX 7800 XT (Yes, I know it’s bottlenecked by my current CPU, but I plan to upgrade soon.) RAM: 32 GB 3200 MHz Hopefully, this helps anyone dealing with similar issues. I’m still tweaking settings, but this setup has made the game playable again for me. Last edited by hydrixion93#6249 on Jan 8, 2025, 8:34:42 AM

" Yeah non of this works. Its game optimization issue. Last edited by daimonxp#7517 on Jan 8, 2025, 2:19:39 PM

For me, it worked at least to some extent, but I wouldn't say the game is fine. You're absolutely right—they really need to optimize their game. The fact that fixes people used during the Necropolis League working now in PoE 2 shows that there hasn't been much progress in terms of CPU engine optimization from their side.

Bumping. Tried everything people have posted and the game still performs really badly. Changing any graphics settings etc. doesn't really do much of anything. All on low, all on max, doesn't matter (since it seems CPU bound).
Ryzen 5 5600H & GeForce 3070 here. Not the top of the line of course, but should be plenty - I played through Indy & the Great Circle for instance and it ran like a dream in comparison. Some areas are much worse than others - the caravan, the savannah-map and the hourglass room in Sekhemas come to mind. Others are better, though still bad. Endgame activities tend to become a slideshow nightmare. Love the game, but it's really irritating to play in this state. Seriously hope performance is a priority in EA. (Someone even recommended GeForce Now since for them it ran better, tried the free version and the game ran at a crisp 25fps in fights, yay) Last edited by Dropbear#2037 on Jan 8, 2025, 5:18:01 PM

Ryzen 7 7700
Rtx 4070Ti Super 32gb 6000mhz ram Windows 10 Cpu usage with hikes to 100% in fighting scenes and citi'es. I tried to limit cpu usage with program but doesnt work - even worse. |

I upgraded almost all of my pc parts over the holidays and don't want to ruin or even harm my new cpu.
for context I'm using a brand new water cooled Ryzen 7 9800x3d and have no issues on any game i play, nothing I'm doing pushes the cpu beyond maybe 40% usage and 50°C. Meanwhile simply launching poe 2 or loading a zone shoots my usage to 100% and spikes my temps to around 80°C. While this isn't on its own a bad temperature, forcing all my cores/threads to those temps and usage withing 2 seconds doesn't seem healthy. I'm not as hardcore as alot of players but i have a couple thousand hours in the game and would love to play poe2 just as much, However I'm not gonna risk my hardware for it. GGG-plz fix |

optimization in PoE2 doesn't exists
CPU runs 30-40% max GPU max 60% (usually - around 40-50%) And doesn't matter if i change anything in graphics options. FSR/no FSR, Low/High details. Vulkan/DX12 ~50% on GPU is max. Only fps drops or goes higher xD |

" Pretty much the exact same here, no thermal issues either. |
