Ruthless sounded great but it turned out that apart from 2-3 guys worldwide no one ever plays it.

On Steam:

POE2 : 578k peak - 416k current - 260k min since launch
POE1 : 228k peak

(im not listing POE1 current, because obviously all the POE1 players are currently trying POE2)

And *every* one of these POE2 players paid.

POE2 is already more popular than POE1.

Will it remain so? I'd bet serious money on it.

Player count peaks are virtually useless estimates for stuff like this, because of how many factors affect it.

PoE2 player count peak has a lot to do with reputation of PoE1 and people who have played PoE1. When PoE1 was launched, no such luck, since no previous PoE existed. It was simply something for ARPG fans who maybe didn't enjoy D3 enough and wanted something to scratch the itch of D2 (which D3 did not, at the time, at all).

PoE1 manages to retain about 40-60k players 2 months after new league. If PoE2 manages to do that assuming nothing of current design changes drastically, I would be extremely surprised. Though that's also in part because there just isn't nearly as much endgame content anyway. I personally suspect the numbers will be drastically lower though.

The campaign won't be this difficult the 5th, 10th or 100th time it's completed. Plus people will have tons of leveling builds out just like the do now.

Worrying about difficulty now is pointless. The game is harder now than it ever will be. It only gets easier from here.

3 years from now when they release difficult league content, people will respond "you should have seen it at launch".

Relax, just learn the mechanics, create some effective builds, and enjoy the new game experience. You'll only get it once.
so i didnt play very much of the first game. this game however i have been seeing a lot of people saying the game is difficult. i think there is a couple of reasons for this. playing a more difficult char, like warrior or witch, and maybe not putting your passives in survivability. i can say warrior is way harder than merc bc the mercenary is absolutely boring easy. you literally only have to strafe circles with mobs, and dodge aoes with bosses. if youre moving the mobs wont hit you, melee or ranged. kinda broken. i can say this game is a little boring so far with loot drops and gameplay loop but i am putting that down to merc not being balanced well. the loot is less forgivable imo it just doesnt seem to keep up with your leveling. i dont think its a bad game, i think its on par with other arpgs that have a slower feel. however people were saying elden ring was too difficult and i think it also had a lot to do with inexperience or not really optimizing a build.

Likening this game to PoE 1 Ruthless is a 10 IQ take.

The main take away from reading all these stupid threads is that people don't like the dodge, the bosses are too hard for them and they aren't getting enough loot.

YET NONE OF THEM ARE EVEN LEVEL 20 OR MORE THAN 12 HOURS PLAYED.

Humanity is the ridiculous sum of its parts and I hate you all for being so disappointing to be around intellectually.

QFT. Lots of people have no patience to learn new things, want to be hand held into end game and need instant tik-tok like gratification to enjoy something. Without patience there is no intelligent discussion and only impulse criticism instead being constructive.

POE2 looks like something I've been waiting ever since Lineage Eternal alpha gameplay showcase and congratz to developers for such a game.

+1.

Glad they got rid of the ZOOM ZOOM - dash across the entire map 1 shotting everything before something touches you once and die gameplay.

I hope that GGG doesn't yield to people crying and make it like POE1, if so why bother with 2 if its the same?

I will agree that there are definitely some fine tuning things that need to happen.

-Lower regular mob pack HP so its not as spongy.
-Make gem drops more frequent to encourage people to try more abilities / supports.

the difficulty gap from poe1 to poe2 is ridiculous i'm sorry it just is !

i do hope they will implement difficulty choices in the future

Just learn the fights, its not bad at all.
This Game is different than other ARPGs, i love it. People who dont like the difficulty or the new slower gameplay should just go back to poe1, d4 or last epoch. There are enough ARPG's out there who are this no-brain fast paced, just click once to win. I hope GGG is not nerfing the difficutly, this game fills a void in the ARPG genre!
I love the game so far and I'm one of the late joiners for PoE1.
Currently still in Act 1 and many deaths at the hands of mini bosses but still enjoying it.
I can say most of the players that hate PoE2 are expecting high loot drops in single run and from what I notice the RNG is really random.
Some mini bosses don't give good loot and their fights are really tough.
Instead I get good drops from rare mobs and orbs from containers, weird I know.

I hope they won't. The game is perfect as is.

its not fun.
If I was doing x10 my current damage, 3x total hp and dodge had phasing it might be fun.
someone would also have to pay me to play darksouls or elden ring.

Someone would have to pay me to play your awful idea of fun.

Yes especially that "fixing" PoE 2 for the lawnmower crowd means the skill interactions and tactical usage would become useless, replaced by 1 click delete.
