POE 2 Complete PC Freeze while loading screen

Now it happened again and I needed to close PathOfexile process.
Fortunately I had my affinity cpu0 and 1 set off, so that didnt crash my whole machine.

Do yourself and everyone else a favor and read about all the cases that do not happen on 24H2 and on Linux and consoles.

There are freeze problems not related to which W11 version you run, but there are also freeze problems directly related to 24H2.

At home, I got a 24H2 PC with major freeze problems - I've shelved this game due to this and the radio silence we've been enjoying. During Christmas, I used my other PC at my cabin @ 23H - not 1 freeze.
I have been pretty upset over the last 24 hours since reading this post. A couple weeks ago, near POE2 release I was playing on my brand new 9800X3D, 3080, X870E Nova motherboard and had constant crashing at load screens. The game would freeze and the mouse would mover ever so so slightly, cntrl + alt del, alt f4, none of those worked, it would always require a hard reset. I suppose I crashed 5 times in under 2 hours. The last and final crash was I loading a zone in Tier 2 and the computer had the same freeze up. This was before 24H2 update.

Unfortunately, this time the computer never turned back on. I had a feeling it was caused by this game but it was never clear until I read this forum last night. Let this be a warning, if you are having this sort of freeze up, STOP PLAYING THE GAME. It will brick your computer. I spent a week trying to figure out what happened, after swapping many parts I came to realization that the 9800X3D was toast, almost literally. I spent another week tracking down another 9800X3D and got it set up a couple of days ago and (stupidly) re installed POE2. Launched it and had the same type of crash as before and immediately uninstalled it. Fix your game GGG, you are bricking computers, all my other games and applications run smooth.
Crash still there. after update, after new pilot on NVIDIA and after little update by windows.

Maybe we need spam more ? Idk..

What a shame... and frustration after over 1 month release.
GGG have been responding to other threads for the past 2 days, so a little annoying they haven’t said anything more about this huge issue.
Same problem on Windows 10
I could play the whole act 1 wihtout crash. Entering in act 2 causes the crash directly in the loadingscein or after entering the camp in act 2.
Tried all the possible fixes, poe uncrasher etc - nothing works. Frustrating
As many people has commented on their experiences with complete pc crashes, i share the experiences. And i have, tried multiple guides on to work arounds. For example turning off CPU 0 and 1 to safe power for OS to run.

Have anyone tried this? Im not that technical, and to me it seems fairly unsafe deleting a security package.

Otherwise, guess the only solution is to wait for this to get fixed.

To people not running into this issues constantly, enjoy the game! :-)

Is the client crashing or is your entire computer locking up? The issue this thread is addressing is that the game is freezing entire computers for some people.

During this OOO period from the GGG team, I was very hyped to play, even though I'm having the worst time crashing my new PC with the Multithreading issue.

So in hopes of mitigating hardware damage due to crashing and resetting the PC, I found some workarounds that mitigate severely, at least for me, the crashing issue.

Diagnosis: after much testing on the nature of such crashes, I could narrow down to the operation of "Loading a map", especifically around new Atlas Maps that I did not load out before when I last logged in. My CPU temps reach ludicrous numbers when such operation starts and I can feel it tingles the system.

My rig: R7 7800x3d + 4080 SUPER + 32 GB 6000MHz RAM - OS Windows 11 24H2

So what do I do:

1) On "X:\Users\xxxxx\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile 2\poe2_production_Config.ini" I edit the engine_multithreading_mode line on the [GENERAL] section to "disabled". This is the same as going on Ingame Options and turning Engine Multithreading OFF. With that option OFF I have 0 issues but also game is not crispy as I desire.

Why do I do that? Because if it's on, my PC crashes before logging in.

2) Once the game is on, Task Manager -> Details -> look for Path of Exile exe, right-click, set affinity and untick CPUs 0 and 1.
That is a fail-safe for when I play the game with Multithreading ON and forget to turn it OFF before loading Hideout/Maps, the crash will be handled by the system, and only PoE2 will be shut down.

3) Before every loading into Hideout or Map, turn Engine Multithreading OFF. Turn it ON when it's go-time.

4) If the crash occurs, and you still wanna play the game, repeat from step 1.

Hope it helps for those struggling. I know that there are a number of variables that cause such crashes. For me it was all around loading with Multithreading ON.

Other workarounds I tested and FOR ME it did not work but I hope it does for you:

- Compatibility set to Windows 7 or 8
- Use Vulcan as renderer
- Mods that does practically what I instructed above

All this just to temporarily buy time in the game is crazy.
