This is a PoE issue and GGG has dropped the ball on the fix and communicating with those of us in the community who have been impacted.
Coming to this game and never playing PoE I was lead to believe this studio was going to join the Larian’s and FromSoftware’s of the industry but their response to this horrible technical issue makes me feel like they’re no better than a Bungie, who is notorious for greedy MTX schemes and prioritizing the bag before player satisfaction.
The least they could do is acknowledge the issue in a dedicated thread with comments off, offer some sort of potential work around or just anything at all.
Real shame a portion of the community loves the game so much and has to be OCD about trouble shooting just to play the game.
"The least they could do is acknowledge the issue in a dedicated thread with comments off, offer some sort of potential work around or just anything at all."
ummm why don't you look at the second thread under "early access bug reports" lol they did acknowledge it and said they are working on it.....
This was nearly a week ago with no subsequent update other than a dev asking for dialog in a private message (which the forum doesn’t even allow me to do) while hundreds and possibly thousands of us just spend all day trouble shooting and risking our hardware.
It’s almost as if they either don’t know the issue and are still working on it are know the issue but can’t fix it. Regardless there are a bunch of us who spent money and are unable to properly play the game without all sorts of workarounds, none of which actually fix the issue without sacrificing performance (enable multithreading). Literally the least they could do is be transparent here and address it directly.
I was able to fix this by turning off 3 settings without turning off multithreading!!!
Turn off Dynamic Culling
Turn off Dynamic Resolution
Turn Off Triple-Buffering
I will update if the cpu lock up happens again with these off but I tested it by rapidly going in and out of act 1 town and the mud burrow. I did this about 25-30 times trying to force it to lock up again. I believe before turning these off my cpu was locking up every 5th-8th time in a loading screen.

Make a bat file to clear shader ccache before launch if you want idc
"
del /S /Q "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile 2\ShaderCacheD3D12\*"

For the people that turned smt off it has stopped the crashes? How long have you tested that?

I'm going to leave this here:
In the last 9 years I've had 2 completely different computers.
In the last 9 years I haven't had to hard reset my computer from the power button a single time. Not even once. Crashes? Ofc, but to the desktop. Not a single hard reset. Never.
They have to fix this. And it's on them.
Agreed. Same situation. 9-10 years dozens of games across 2 pc’s and a laptop and have never had a hard crash that takes me to desktop

After getting approximately 10 crashes per hour and trying everything I got a solution for myself.
Disabling 2 cores didn’t work for me at first. Even disabling random cores didn’t work. So, I entered the game and disabled multi thread option (the game only uses one core and one thread) I checked which one the game was using. For me was CPU6 CPU7. I unchecked the multi thread thing in game went to task manager and disabled that core (CpU6 CpU7). Worked for me. No crashes no freeze. Max settings - ~ 180fps. I’m going to use this “solution” in the meantime
My god you have no idea how perfect this solution is. Everything else either didn't work or it did stop the crashes, but my game ran really poorly. This solution did fix the crashes and my game runs smooth as butter.
I highly recommend trying this to everyone with the help of Process Lasso.
i5-12400f
RTX 3050
32GB DDR4
nVME SSD 1TB
Windows 11 24h2 with latest drivers.
Can you please elaborate on what I should do in Process Lasso?
Download the program.
Open POE2 and Process Lasso.
In POE2 disable multithreading and check on Process Lasso which of the cpu core is being used the most, remember it. Mine was core 2.
TIP: Cores start from 0 to whatever, my CPU has 12 cores so it starts from 0 to 11.
Then turn on multithreading again in POE2.
Find POE2 in the Process Lasso > right click > affinity > always > uncheck the core that's being used the most. For me it was core 2.
Profit.
I've been playing since then and it's still running smooth af and 0 crashes as of right now. Although I would not recommend to stress your CPU with other programs while your POE2 is open, this will cause other lag issues and even crashes. It's best to not stress your CPU with anything else while playing POE since the game is veyr cpu intensive.

Crash to desktop is not a hard crash. Hard crash you freeze can’t go to desktop have to push reset button on pc.

i just gave up, extremely disappointed with this game
1. Unplayable: $250 wasted.
2. Poor performance: D4 never had these problems.
3. Outdated graphics: 1996-level textures and visuals.
4. Terrible UI: Worst I've ever seen.
5. Clunky inventory management: Unintuitive and frustrating.
6. What we have?: Builds nerfs, microtransaction promos, streamers being paid do advertise the game. Support for critical bugs? NO.
Feels like a lazy copy-paste for $250. Unacceptable.

Well thats a hot take. I feel like you are upset, and thats ok. The game however is not as bad as you make it sound man. If you spent 250 on it then you knew how it was going to look before hand.... thats on you man. The bug is a big deal and they have said more than a few times that they are working on it. and the ui is by no means clunky, it is very similar to the first poe.... made by the same people soooooo yeah lol. if your game is locking up your pc try this it worked for me
