IM NOW 85% SURE ITS A PROBLEM WITH THE NBIDIA DRIVER DETECTING POE 2 AS PATH OF EXILE.
IF NVIDIA ISNT DETECTING "PATH OF EXILE 2" YOURE GOING TO HAVE A FATAL SHADER COMPILER ERROR. TESTED WITH 2 PCS FIXED NOW.
I put some thought into this post and what I then did has totally solved the crash freeze issue that has plagued me since buying POE2... no other solution posted thus far has helped. 5 hours of play in 3 sessions + at least 20 portals across all parts of the game to test.
1. Uninstall POE2 and if you have it POE1 as well.
2. Important... delete both POE1 and 2 folders from your Documents/ My Games folder.
3. Do a search on your drive(s) for anything "Path of Exile", highlight all results and delete the files and folders then do the same search for "Grinding Gears" just in case there's any remnants that may be there. Then, empty your recycle bin!
4. Clean your shader cache... empty that sucker.
5. Rerun a scan in Nvidia App and make certain Path of exile is gone from your installed games.
6. Restart windows.
7. Do a fresh install of POE2 only (don't install POE1)
8. Start the game and redo your settings to taste. I left it on DX12 to really test it without Vulkan. Then exit the game and then restart it.
9. Ready to play... load in and hold your breath.
Once I was loading in I noticed the gears turning much smoother. When I started playing, I ran about while shaders compiled. The game was much smoother and ran well. I ported around maps and was overjoyed when they all loaded without freezing. Hard to explain but everything was running much better.
The big question... Is there a conflict between the 2 POE versions causing issues?
PS. Just did another 2 hour session and no crashes! CPU and GPU are also cooler.
Thank you for the post I'll have a look at this. One small thing, could you add where the shader cache folder is for PoE 2, i.e. where to delete it? I might know because I've cleaned it before but someone skimming the thread might not at all. Thanks! :)

Hey i have been having constant pc freezes since launch. It has gotten worse with every update more or less and the last 2 days i could barley play at all becouse of it. Today i went in to (edit power plan) in windows, change advanced power settnings and set maximum processor state to 80%. I have tried this before with fails but i only set it to 95% and 90% then. Since changing to 80% i have manged to play the game for 6 hours straight without a single crash or freeze, this is the first time ever ive manged play without any issues for this long. Im aware my pc might still freeze sooner or later but at least maybe this tip will help others to play for longer play session.

Yes, this is a known 'workaround'. Anything that helps with CPU stability helps avoiding hard freezes, but bottom line this is not a hardware issue.
We just don't know why. You'll end up crashing again.

The NVidia app fiddling and make it show properly worked.
Played one T6 Map and had no crashes in the loading screens.
I will stress test it later to see if it still crashes or not.

Replying in this thread as well:
Okay, I think I found an actual fix. So setting the affinity of PoE to disable the first two cores will prevent your computer freezing, but PoE still gets stuck in a loop at 100% CPU without being able to make progress. When this happens, you can set the priority of PoE to realtime and whatever it's waiting on is then able to get scheduled and PoE unfreezes. You should then change it back to normal priority when the loading screen si done.
The new version of PoEUncrasher detects PoE freezing, and then does this to unfreeze it, resetting it after the loading screen automatically. The new version is up at https://github.com/Kapps/PoEUncrasher/releases/tag/v1.2.0. Note that you will need to run the program as an administrator for the unfreeze feature to work.
Hopefully this works for others!
Your tool saved my PC from crashing so many times, can't thank you enough, others should give this a go.

I've tried everything from adding exceptions to deleting POE1 to clearing shader cache. Nothing works. I reinstalled the game and hard crashed froze completely again. switched to dx11 and loaded in the game, switched back to DX12 and it works now. The only other problem I'm gonna bring up is loading between zones uses 105% of utilization? I didn't even know it could go past 100%. temps go from 50-60C to 80-95C for a couple seconds. I don't feel comfortable with that at all still. People say X3D CPUs can handle temps that high but who would want to run your CPU 30-35C higher everytime you port to town or switch zones? People keep blaming windows and other things but the reality is other games don't behave this way. Marvel Rivals/D4/League Of Legends/ All don't spike utilization or temps like that. It would be nice to have an official response with a thread up with 200+ pages. Regardless Tried the edit power plan thing to 80% and that actually solved the issue. I've noticed temps don't skyrocket anymore and 80% utilization was max so far. Trying to monitor it is HWmonitor. Thank you for mentioning this. Just have to remember to turn it back to 100% while doing everything else.

Now what we i would like to know is why PoE returns back to normal after setting it to realtime prio lol.

UPDATE: full system crashes still happening with POE-Uncrasher in Admin mode.
:(
In the POE2 log, every crash happens with a D3DX12 Create Texture Error or Collision Callback Error.
I am on Windows 23H2. All latest drivers and BIOS and updates installed.

Guys I went to appdata folder and searched for "path of exile" and deleted every single item and folder that has that name (click skip if prompted with an error for some items). After doing so i havent had any crashes in about 3 hours.
Can you guys try doing the same and see if it changes anything?
