GGG need to undertstand that Fextralife is the problem I feel like they don't get it.

I wouldn’t care if it was ggg’s fault 100% no questions asked. The problem is fextra knew what they were doing and even when told not to do something like talking to a child did it anyways. they still have guides being updated as we speak on their dumb wiki. This is not their first time doing such and their track record should have been checked and considered before even allowing them to touch and plague poe2. Shit was squeaky clean until they were involved, shocker -,-
"
GGG probably aren't making a big deal out of this because it's NOT a big deal.

yeah for real.

maybe the guy shouldnt have got access. the fact that he did doesnt amount to anything tho. GGG are not gonna come out and say "oh yeah we didnt realise this guy was an idiot", theyre game devs theyre not in the business of publicly slandering people even if they do now think "woops".

nothing hes gonna release has any significance, it doesnt actually matter that he got access to a review copy. its absolutely not the same as when blizzard gave rhykker, wudy, raxx etc weeks of pre release access to the full version of diablo 4 specifically so they could figure out the entire meta game puzzle and have real expert guides for everything in the game ready to launch with the game day 1.

that was an abomination which had a devastating impact on D4s meta evolution. the fex thing has essentially 0 impact in real terms outside of us talking about it.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
I have watched said video from start to end, even knowing the scummy stuff FL have got up to borders on the allegedly criminal.
From what I saw it’s quite feasible FL has not got the game never played even the beta or played it at any show.
All of that footage could hypothetically have come from other ‘valid’ journalists and FL got their hands on that.
Personally I saw a positive ‘review’ (in the loosest possible sense of the word review) of the campaign only.
Their, without question, scummy behaviour isn’t for me to deal with so, that’s that.

Edit: all this ‘rage’ about it here on our forums is doing is sending people to FL (bet they’re happy as hell about that) to see what the fuss is about. Just don’t talk about it or them!

people who downplay it do not understand how content positioning works and that it is no longer tied to 'quality' of the content but to popularity

and guess what is going to be 'popular' - the ONLY guide/wiki/walktrough available on day one. it is going to get 10s if not 100s of thousands of hits early days.

if it gets big enough lead - it will DROWN other content by the sheer acquired 'popularity score'

if you dont believe me - check games like dark souls or bloodborne and see yourself. their wikis are made by fexa and they are useless but youll get results from them from search, time and time again. without deep understanding of said games you wont be able to tell turd from gold.

it takes enormous resources to change that, fandom wiki is STILL, up to this day, competing with poewiki despite not being updated in like 4 years(?)

it is a huge deal when the top content for your game you get from google is garbage and this is what people (who actually know what it is all about) are mad/worried/sad

bad wiki can actually make players dislike a product and most of you are actually spoiled by JUST HOW GOOD poe's wiki is now. other games werent that fortunate. 3rd party creators might be dis-incentivised from creating said sources if the dominant site is auto-generated click factory (that, and the fact GGG can afford to make good baseline wiki themselves, there is no chance for 'helping the poor underdog' movement this time)

We're not downplaying it, it's being completely overblown by terminally online hyperemotional people who can't conceive of how little their tiny bubble matters to the larger world because they aren't able to comprehend anything outside of their own personal experiences.

I'm repeating myself, but there really is no other way to say it: it doesn't matter, at all. This whole dramastorm has absolutely zero impact on the game we're going to play on Friday, much less the final version of the game which will be out next year. It won't have any measurable impact on the number of players on Friday, and it won't have any measurable impact on the number of players in the final version which comes out next year. Less than one percent of the people who play PoE will ever even hear about this situation, and even less will care.

You mention Dark Souls and Bloodborne, and I'm gonna add Baldur's Gate 3 to that list. All three of those games have dogshit wikis made by Fextralife, and yet SOMEHOW they managed to sell millions of copies and amass an enormous fanbase. It's almost like this doesn't actually matter? Now where have I heard that before...?
thats whats called confirmation bias.

measuring the actual impact takes one to bypass it.

my take on it is simple - any player who gets in any way dissuaded from playing the game is a direct loss. for GGG, for me and for YOU (because players are THE CONTENT after all. there is a reason dead leagues play like sh.. despite mechanic being fun. esp since POE (and most likely POE2) HEAVILY relies on trade)

problem with Fexa in particular is that their impact on gaming is FAR from 'tiny bubble'. in a hyper-competetive and all-or-nothing search engine situation, any chance that auto-content blocks legit one is scary. and Fexa just got an ENORMOUS head start and is going to milk it dry. again - check how well fandom poe wiki fares despite being abandoned several years ago.

Confirmation Bias? These are literally your examples:

Dark Souls sold over 3 million copies on under a 10M budget.

Bloodborne sold over 7 million copies on an estimated 20M budget despite being console-exclusive.

Fexa doesn't matter, they literally do not have the ability to impact games on the scale you're describing.

That’s somewhat akin to saying a group of us will have a car race from LA to New York, but I get a 5 day head start.

The game will be the same true, but that ‘not worth saying their name again’ now has a head start and trust me even without the SEO shenanigans they do it’s going to massively affect their Google placement for a long long time.

I honestly wonder if Fextra is in the USA and if there might be a multi million dollar federal case for fraud.

No chance....they didn't break any rules at all. Even those who "investigated them" have admitted that what they do isn't technically against any ToS or rules on the platforms. It is simply unethical.

You get it, my friend. This topic and so many other threads re: PoE 2 sky-is-falling....it means nothing.

It all comes back to "self control", and the fact that so many people feel forced to watch/read/listen/interact with 3rd party content....when they quite literally are not.

Nor will any collection of content creators or streamers have any effect on the game's popularity or launch. The only time they will have any tangible, noticeable effect on player numbers is if there is a significant issue with the game (think D3/D4). Then, and only then, could a united front of content creator information hold any sort of power.
