One shot at the boss per instance

"
Some questions:

-- Can a map boss be skipped and still not lose progression along that route?

-- If you kill a boss, can you go back and revisit that map and if you do and die, will the map now lock?

-- Does dying in a map not only lock you out of the map but also cost you experience too.

As a casual player over many years, this seems a very unfun mechanic.

In order to successfully clear a map you need to kill every rare and unique enemies. That makes me think if you fail to kill every rare and uinque enemies then the map considered failed.

I don't think you can rerun the same completed map. Pretty much same as delve. You can't rerun the same delve node after completed it.

Dying locks you out of the map and cost you 10% xp.

Interesting changes but the fact that maps will lock after you die, it is a bit of a problem for new players. At least they could make it to lock for 24 hours or something and give you the option to take a different route or to wait while farming for better gear or to make your gameplay skills better.

Or they could create a coin that you could use to unlock the map in case you die or to farm another area to find a key.

We will have to see how it is going to be but it does not sound so good in my opinion.

For the experienced players might sound good but for the new players that they have to learn and understand the skill tree and in general the whole PoE system and then to be careful about those kinds of penalties, might be too much.

As i said, we will have to see so, good luck to everyone and have fun.

To reiterate, you'll be fully able to reroute to another spot if the map locks, just not do bosses and go another direction alltogether and just do bosses that defeated you again and again and again. You'll never be locked out of a certain boss fight. Or content. Just out of that one map you failed.

Getting locked out of a map for 24hrs doesn't really solve my issue with wanting to try the same boss again after dying, at least once or twice. To get some more practice. Or inch out those last few percentages I missed last time.
I don't mind maps locking if you die. It's how their atlas works, we'll see what it brings. And you can't hardlock yourself so that's all good as well.

As I said, I'd like to see a few more tries on bosses as to not be let down by the fact that I nearly got him or just died instantly or get some more practice and what not instead of having to find this boss again.

I saw a video this morning that was an interesting take that could persuade me to like just having one chance per instance. It's bigger picture though and not instant gratification. ^^

Tldr. What I think she's saying is it's good for the economy and for longevity of a league.

Yes everything will be slower paced since we're building towards being able to beat the next step of combat and actually getting through these maps without dying. And for casual players this is multiplied since we're even slower.
But the hope is that everything has the potential to be more deliberate and rewarding because now farming a boss or a map at least at higher tiers is much less of a given and thereby can drop less random loot.

Also, I want stuff to stay hard and if the mindset is, we're building something satisfying when you eventually beat it, it'll most likely be hard to do.

Wait, what? Did they mention that they are going to keep this shitty EXP penalty?

we don't know the amount. XP penalties are removed in the campaign, for late game I think the xp penalty formula is still TBD, but it should be smaller than previously to account for failing maps having consequences (they are still discussing it internally)
It was mentioned in an interview that the higher level exp penalty would remain for racing reasons. What the threshold is, idk.

Other than that, the game requires me to git gud, so challenge accepted.

Thanks for the info. I'm in the camp of "either one or the other", but never both. Elden Ring learned from its predecessors with the Stakes of Marika. You choose one form of punishment, you never apply both at the same time. (Just in case you got some friends at GGG.)

All will be fine.
