One shot at the boss per instance

If there is no way to disengage im afraid it could be frustrating specially if on top of that you lose exp, if the boss is not the only way to complete the map just allow me to disengage and try an alternate way with the penalty of losing some valuable loot from boss.
It is clear how disengaging works in the campaign, but may need to just wait and see for maps. In campaign, taking a portal out will reset the boss HP, allowing you to try again or go somewhere else and come back later. In maps, I imagine its the same somehow. Though I do hope if you exhaust all 6 portals without completing the whole map (or if the game server crashes mid map) that it doesn't count as a failure (I assume it won't, but you never know)
Some questions:

-- Can a map boss be skipped and still not lose progression along that route?

-- If you kill a boss, can you go back and revisit that map and if you do and die, will the map now lock?

-- Does dying in a map not only lock you out of the map but also cost you experience too.

As a casual player over many years, this seems a very unfun mechanic.

Good questions, we don't really know the specifics and exact technical details, its a new game. Speculating is fun, but I'm just going to wait and try it

I have similar questions and not a big fan of the 1 try per boss (given the grind needed for 1 try), in itself the boss or the map reset completely in case of death seems legitimate to me.

but as some have mentioned, there are far too many unknowns at the moment to be able to judge this feature. (progression of the difficulty, readability of the telegraphs, frequency of one-shot mechs that come out of nowhere, desync?, what are the affixes in the game ... etc, etc) the list of unknowns is huge.

it's an EA, we'll see, and if there are changes to be made in relation to these things, I have no doubt that it will be adjusted before 1.0
The more I think about this the less I like this tbh. Souls bosses, MMO raiding etc are all very satisfyingly yet involve tons of tries on the really hard content. Because how do you tune something to one try? They can't even mess up the first time then.

And the campaign has checkpoints no? But later on it's just one try and then you have to start from scratch? That just makes zero sense to me unless it's that way to artificially inflate player-retention and drag out content for streamers and people no-lifing or something

imo its related to streamers but in a way that if you come up against a boss you will pretty much have to YT that boss fight before going in, that is if you respect yourself lol. so at the end, streamers get views, ggg gets exposure, you just here to pull that lever
btw the darksoul comparison seem to me irrevelent.

i d'ont thing in darksoul you have to grind 1h or more between 2 try.
I will probably not research a single boss unless it's an uber and I'm having a really rough time.
I also don't think it's their intention for us to research bosses heavily.
Yes, they get exposure and yes, content creators get views but GGG seems to me to always have been a company of developers who want their players to just play the game and enjoy it.
Honestly, I hated it in Diablo 3, I'm really worried how it will turn out in PoE2.
