PoE2: One death in map and its bricked.
It's like the devs were playing Ruthless and went "I know, let's just make PoE 2 Ruthless! Players LOVE not having a choice over the difficulty of content!"
PoE 2 from what I've seen so far already seems visually and mechanically fun but way more slow paced than PoE 1. When the majority of the appeal for PoE 1 is the fast-paced gameplay once you get to maps and are able to blast with fast movement speed & fast clear speed builds. You know, the ACTION part of an arpg. You take that away and now you just have a dark-souls like arpg where you have to dodge roll instead of choosing a mobility skill to use instead. 🔷🔶🔰🌀✨Standard>Leagues✨🌀🔰🔶🔷

The more I think about it the better the one portal choice becomes.
But this only holds true IF PoE2 endgame is actually fair, means no silly damage spikes out of nowhere, no danger hidden below a pile of loot and such. |

You dont have to "try" something to know its gonna suck. When they were testing the flasks earlier this year and everyone became a "Well Mage" I knew before they rolled that back it was a bad idea. Time will tell if this is the hill they die on.
To be clear I dont care if we brick maps , I do care about only one chance against super hard bosses. Scrap the portals and just add a 1 hour time limit to any End game bosses. Reset their HP to full if you or your group fails and let players practice against them with unlimited lives within the one hour. Otherwise were right back to either be a immortal tank against the boss or delete it as soon as you see it and neither are healthy. Its a waste of time to walk into a Boss and get deleted. If we need to memorize 100 different end game boss rotations with one life then I want more lives or time to learn them if they truly will be super difficult. I can only speak for myself and what I personally would enjoy. |

" I have exact same take on this, but i was thinking why they would do the 1 portal now. maybe its to test the balance and mechanics of bosses/content? basically have pin point precision on what is too easy and what is too hard. at least that's what i choose to believe lol. i pray it wont turn into some soul-like new age game |

Guys, mark my words. After enough people complain about only having one portal, they will eventually make it so there are at least 3-4 portals you can use and players will praise them for being generous. Meanwhile, that was their plan all along. Playing 4D chess and doing the same thing with all the recent nerfs and "buffs" in the last couple of years on PoE 1.

" Oh, i'm definitely marking this. So I can come back to it when it doesn't happen. People have been asking for campaign skips for how long now? People have been asking for the death penalty to go away for how long now? GGG is at the top of the genre purely because they ignore this kind of request and make the game they want to play. Game would have died a decade ago if they listened to this sort of suggestion. |

" I have never disagreed with any of their previous decisions, they are right for the game imo. This one however (fully up for it as an option) is a step too far imo for default softcore. Time will indeed tell. It is my opinion, that if this was the direction they wanted to shift towards for softcore, that the first step should have been to ween us off 6 portals by trying the idea with 3 to start with and see how that went in EA. I'm hyped for PoE 2 because it fixes everything that makes PoE 1 a nauseating experience and something I don't plan to touch anymore; the central problem of PoE 1 being the fact that nothing has meaning anymore.
PoE 2 is re-introducing meaning into the game on all design levels. This one death per map change also adds meaning to mapping, gearing, building defense, choices, skillful gameplay (or skillful avoidance of it ;)... let's first test it out, then complain. Maybe most people will hate it in the end, me included. But for now I just hope GGG won't cave in immediately when the rivers of tears start flood in on Dec 6. When night falls
