RF is no longer one of the best starters, people won't be able to walk through their first two watchstones.

I don't really play RF myself, but from what I have read the main complaint seems to stem from the 21+ gem level scaling of RF. As with every spell with flat damage the scaling is exponential up to level 30 (You only need level 25 to be dealing double the damage of level 20). With these changes the level scaling is basically just gone which means the final DPS of an otherwise already low DPS build will be even lower. The extra increase from life is negligible as the vast majority of scaling in RF builds came from raw increased % damage and dot multi, stats which are now competing with +max life in the gear and tree.
Still though, I don't really feel as though the complaining is justified until we see the trans gems for RF. I personally predict that one trans gem will eschew damage in favour of increasing the spell damage multiplier, and the other one will still have flat damage at the cost of lower life scaling percentage. Just my prediction here but I believe this would make sense. Souls along a conduit of blood, from one vessel to the next.

Every single league since 3.14 i had to go and dump more and more currency into my builds just to keep them on the same level because something got nerfed. Unlike league players who sport a fire and forget mentality in terms of builds it's very much noticable if you play standard. It's been getting worse and worse every league. Yeah GGG introduces more and more OP chase bullshit so the ceiling keeps going higher but so does the floor. I am not even looking for getting buffs for my builds, i just don't want to see them get nerfed all the time. And the most outrageous part of it is how GGG keeps butchering corpses. Literally the first change i saw looking at gem changes was Cleave of all things get butchered. Followed by Dual Stike. Like what the fucking hell? It's not like losing 20% attack speed or 1xx % increased crit changes anything about those skills, they've been dead since a long time ago, some desecration doesn't really change anything but this is a matter of principle. Why the fucking hell do they keep nerfing dead skills? I could live with RF or TS getting nerfed though TS actually got much stronger at the low end so it's not even a nerf, but Cleave and Dual Strike? WHY?? It honestly doesn't make sense, i can't even begin to think of a logic that would explain why it's necessary to nerf skills like that. If you go around changing skills and end up looking at useless trash along the way, why go and make it even more useless instead of just buffing it for once. JUST WHY? TS clears 3 screens with a billion projectiles in one click, now even on low budget because you no longer need helm enchant and that's perfectly fine but Cleave having 20% increased attack speed is something they can't stomach? To me the RF change sounds like it was buffed on the high end (ES % based) and nerfed on the low end (flat dmg).

You're missing that RF builds ran fire trap for damage. Old RF scaled in the same way as fire trap, so scaling one scaled the other, which got the build its damage.
Now, RF doesn't scale the same as fire trap, so focusing on scaling it will necessarily cost a lot of fire trap damage, and vice versa. Also, you're missing that old RF was playable from lvl ~19 while the new RF looks like it will do garbage damage until one gets a solid gear, if at all, which is a massive downgrade to the build overall. | |
Yes, so they nerfed leaguestarter RF (which was most popular one) and they buffed "end game RF" (which wasnt that popular).
