Feedback on Colourblind Support for Gem Sockets
Why not just changing the shape of the sockets all together :
Triangle = blue Circle = green Star = Red And having gems matching the shape of the sockets... Path of Exile is a Casino for gambling addicts.
Gambling is not fun nor a game mechanic...

" LMAO ... it took us a few seconds to notice this ... WTF GGG
Can't we just have different "patterns" on the outer edge of the sockets?
| |
here's my thought on a topic, make it optional in settings and show it while ALT=pressed. |

I'm not a colorblind person, but the notches are barely visible, a better option could be changing the sockets shapes.

No difference between blue and white when socketed upwards...

Colour blind player here (Deuteranopia). While I would prefer a larger change for quicker and easier identification if you are sticking with the notches consider making the white sockets have 3 notches (yes I stole this idea from reddit) which would allow differentiation of all sockets by notches no matter how the links are arranged by looking at the bottom part of the socket (left-str, right-dex, none-int, two-all) so we aren't forced to switch between shape and colour thinking. Having the ability to assign non-colour based identifiers would be much more comfortable for me.
Edit: Just to make it clear this version is already 1000x better than the current one but there is still room for improvement. Last edited by Verybigbrain on Sep 1, 2021, 4:48:20 AM

" I am not colourblind, but I like the aesthetics of the above solution. I would suggest that whatever solution is used on sockets should be able to be applied equally to skill gems. This solution would work with that, by allowing the shape outline to also surround the skill gem. While I agree that being able to enable/disable this mode is warranted, I would caution against all of the options being piled onto the ALT-hover action. You should consider making some of the actions requiring ALT-hover simply be options that can be hard-enabled or disabled in the game options, such as showing extended item descriptions. Having to press ALT (or whichever key you have bound) every time you hover an item can be fatiguing. |
