Just so you know, this game is already riddled with cheats. Here are a few examples

Stop worrying about other people, worry about yourselves.

Hold your horses pal.

If we were only concerned with ourselves then we would play a single person RPG.
We come to the MMO aspect of gaming because we want to trade and interact in the economy within a game.

I also would not say NEVER so enthusiastically. Maybe not 100%, but most certainly it can be curbed way the hell down. Yes... will a neck-beard somewhere in New Jersey be able to find a way to circumvent the system, of course; but there should no longer be hundreds of YouTube videos on how to do it or bragging about it... it will stay way underground, left to the domain of real programmers thus eliminating 95% of the cheese.

Here is the thing.

While I agree it is GGG's responsibility to "curb" these problems as much as possible (which I would assume they are working on consider they are a very small team with limited resources) what people ultimately fail to realize is, that botters, hackers, dupers and cheaters will adapt.

It is the Weapon versus Armor "cycle".

Throughout history mankind developed weapons to hurt each other, other men responded by developing armor to prevent being hurt from said weapons. Then, low and behold, mankind developed different weapons that penetrated or made said armor worthless.

Rinse and repeat throughout history.

What does that have to do with cheating, duping, hacking and botting?

Cheaters will develop software to cheat/bot/dupe/hack, game companies will respond with software to detect cheatting/duping/etc etc etc etc....

This is exactly what will happen for the rest of games like PoE's existance.

What does this mean for the average player? It means this: There is absolutely nothing you can do about it, (aside from the occasional "I noticed a cheater, and have reported him.")

Making posts claiming GGG is irresponsible, or cheating will destroy this game etc etc, will not do anything.

So, what does the player need to do to maximize enjoyment from a game like PoE?

Stop worrying about other people and play the game. If you sit around and worry because some neckbeard scored 200% more pixels than you, you should evaluate your life priorities. Instead of trying to reach the end as quickly as possible, attempt just once to enjoy the journey.

That is all, take it or leave it.

I don't see how that'll affect casual users? I certainly don't need to log on to multiple accounts/chars at one time. It won't eliminate all abusers but I'm sure it'll get rid of a lot of them.

Sorry just read through my post again, what I meant was that one computer or ip address can only be online on one account at one time. So if you want to use another account, you have to log off. I know this doesn't work with some ISP which constantly refreshes your IP (like mine), but I'm sure it'll have a pretty big effect.

Ok... don't leave yet... I appreciate that you wrote out a well thought out post.

You have two ideas within your philosophy in your posts here:
1) cheating can not be stopped do to the evolution of matters
2) when it comes down to being a game and only pixels, then who really cares anyway.

We are done with argument #1; you are right, probably can not be stopped.

#2 however, I have a problem with.

Playing a quick game of tic-tac-toe on the back of a napkin at a restaurant while you wait for your food to arrive is merely a diversion; but online gaming is a true-blue hobby in the strictest for many of us. When this hobby gets drastically interrupted or griefed in some way, it most certainly has ramifications on our enjoyment.

The game of chess is a respected hobby right? It has international championships that get real news coverage. But what is it after all? Its just a few pieces of plastic moving around a board and its outcome has no real world ramifications.

Christoph Natsidis used a chess program on his smartphone during his last-round game against GM Sebastian Siebrecht to analyze a position from the game... this is not the first time that cheating in a high tech manner has been observed at the highest level of competition. But who cares right? Just plastic pieces moving around. They need to get a life right?

This threads issue (which is occurring as we write in hundreds of other MMO/ARPG forums) repeatedly gets blasted with "what the hell do you care if we become filthy rich within the game... your just jealous you can't too... you need to get out of the basement and get a life." It is an inappropriate response to these players concerns who feel as though this is their true hobby.

This would block people who live together from playing from the same IP legitimately. So, someone's brother/roommate/etc. couldn't play at the same time.

You sir are correct that people cheating are making the game possibly less enjoyable for more competitive people like yourself (I am making an assumption here, correct me if I am wrong).

I guess you have sufficiently responded as to "why you care about people cheating", the fact remains that no solution is possible.

My suggestion is, if you know that you cannot beat them, why cause yourself unneeded stress thinking about how they are "progressing quicker than you".

On an off note and slightly off topic, my highest char is a 36 lvl HC char, with i think like 5 chance orbs to my name (aka poor as crap). So just so you know, I am not attempting to push a pro cheating agenda.

I guess you just have to understand that cheaters will progress more, because that is reality. If it is something you cannot cope with, then you will have to find something else to be competitive with. I know that is a hard pill to swallow but it is the truth.

The way I cope with the idea is, I simply attempt to enjoy the "journey", and if I become "good" or "better" than certain players, awesome. If I don't (more probable), no biggie.

Simply the reality of the situation, I understand the "anti cheaters camp" mentality on why they detest it, but realistically speaking, there is zero solution.

Yup. Pretty much this.

Realize that the only part of the equation you can affect in the GIFT is the audience. Remove the audience and the trolls merely rant at the air.
Dont be so impatient scro. GGG will bring down the banhammer when the time is right.

EDIT FOR CLARITY: None of the current hacks use sneaky methods, im sure GGG either already has code in place to detect them, or will soon enough. Unfortunately for us, the people "hacking" this game atm are currently still just amateurs. Also, multiboxing isnt cheating.

Errr so 2 mods basically said the same thing here :"cheat will always exist in this game, leave if you can't handle it."

Is this GGG's attitude towards this issue or the mods' own? Cause this kind of response is truly pathetic.
