GGPK Defragmenter

Mother of God!

This sweet tool has compressed my content.ggpk to 50% of it's original size, thus saving me 3GB. I haven't tried playing PoE yet but it's undoubtedly going to be a great improvement on my loading times. Thanks for providing this tool. :)
I am offline or not responding in game ??? PM me.

First of all many thanks to the creator of this util :)

In the ~40 days i play this game, i defrag the PoE folder after each update. This time i also used this tool after the defrag:

almost 3GB smaller ggpk file :)

But, now the file is by far the most fragmented file on my (mechanical) HD, 564 pieces scattered all over the HD...

Should i now re-defrag the game folder again, or will that "cancel" the effects of the tool? Is it possible that the way the data was arranged in the original file was the optimal for loading time (for example all the Catacombs stuff in one cluster), and now the new "compact" file has them all over the place and the HD head must travel all over the plates to gather the pieces?

Once again, thanks to Zoxc for the creation of this tool :)

One thing I can say for sure that it won't cancel out the effects of this tool. So your problem will be solved after defragmenting again.

you have to defraq your windows file system after using this tool or the poe file is splitted in ~500 parts on your filesystem.

Best performance after a patch.

delete ShaderCache
delete Minimap
delete logs
use ggpk_defragment.exe
defrag your file system (i use Defraggler to defrag only the game file)

if you have ssd please dont defragment it.
Thanks for your answers guys :)

I did defrag the game folder again (also use Defraggler), and then started the game about 2hs ago just to see that there was another 700mb patch waiting for me, lol.

And now i logged of because there is yet another patch XD
! always nice.
Why ask Why and start by denying before you have actually tried?

As I can see current usage of the tool is not that friendly for the avarage user. So I changed few lines of code and now it works by double clicking.

Now the tool creates a backup of the Content.ggpk named Content.ggpk.old, then it creates a defragmented copy of it named as Content.ggpk. So there is no additional steps in the process, after running the game without a problem you could delete Content.ggpk.old to save some space.

Windows executable - Source

Usage:
1- Copy the tool to your Path of Exile directory.
2- Double click it and wait for it to finish
3- Run the game to check if everything is working fine.
4- If so delete Content.ggpk.old to save some space.

Spoiler
This was the first time I had my hands on a ruby code. Thankfully I only changed 2-3 lines of code but if there is a way that it could be done more efficiently. Experienced ruby developers should feel free to make appropriate changes.

Just copy the defrag.exe to game directory and double click it.
