@gast
zzz... I was giving a more extreme example. Clearly it did not help you understand my reasoning, though. Even if it gave more immediate income for GGG, the game quality would decrease by having obnoxious advertisements in the game, eventually leading to less players. I'm envious of you for being able to tolerate advertisements and bright signs in the login screen, but some of us clearly do not like it at all. Since there are people complaining about it, that clearly indicates that not EVERYONE is satisfied. I'm sure you would be satisfied if there was nothing there as well, since it doesn't directly affect you. You do realize that I am voicing my opinion on the matter so that GGG understands that not everyone is content with it, right? It's MY opinion indeed. So, just because you ARE in fact okay with it doesn't mean everyone is. The ultimate goal is to make as many people as possible happy with the game for as long as possible. I am clearly less satisfied with the game having a big sign for the DotD. I don't even understand what you are arguing with me for. I'm saying my opinion on the matter and you are trying to disregard it completely. My opinion is just as valuable as any other person's, for I too, pay money towards the game. I would not quit the game just BECAUSE of the DotD ad, but I'll be less likely to stay with it longer/promote the game/pay as much/etc. |

" I can't sum it up any better than this. Feels great to be able to choose to support GGG for their great work. |

"... " and you keep going with straw men (look for it on wikipedia,it's free). there are not and there are not going to be advertisements in the game. there is one little ad on the login screen,which is not going,by any mean,to ruin your experience in the game. clear enough? " and you do realize that you are being extremely fussy about one of the,if not the only,ways GGG has to promote their stuff? " i'd like to remind you that you were quite harsh in your previous post (this isn't christmas). on top of that you felt entitled to define your solution as BEST. since i work in this field,i replied to you,making you notice and explaining you why your solution isn't absolutely the "best" one. in the end i don't care about my opinion or your opinion,this is a argument where our opinion does not really matter. sure you can express your disappointment,but making a problem out of it becomes a bit out of place. GGG didn't ask if we like it or not,didn't ask for feedback,rightfully i say. ads will be there,they are not going to ruin the game experience,they are functional to the company business model,end of the discussion. | |
Gast once again we are entitled to our opinions, our posts were not meant to start arguements with you, but to put OUR opinions out there, why do you feel the need to attack any post that doesnt agree with this ad?
we dont have to like it, got it punk? |

Does someone know why GGG don't have more "custom content" stuff to buy?
Like stuff I mentioned in my last post? |

I, too, hope that the login-screen advertisement is removed or in some way hidden. Currently, it is glaring and mars, not only the aesthetic of the screen, but also the game's philosophy. The login screen may seem unimportant, but it's what introduces us to the game every time we play. Having a login screen that exchanges style for monetization is like having an introduction to a novel that spends most of its time advertising purchasable memorabilia related to the book - sure, it wouldn't ruin the story itself, but I would be immediately entering its world with a bad taste in my mouth and serious concerns about its integrity.
On a more practical note, most of the people who will be interested in these sales in the first place are those who already use the microtransactions shop, since those who don't tend to be people who would rather not spend money on aesthetic upgrades. So, most of the sale's demographic will be people who don't need this sort of login advertisement, since they will tend to visit the site itself. I understand that GGG needs money, but I would much rather pay for the game than tolerate wayward advertisements. In fact, I would be content if I just had the option to pay to disable ads. " These unique items being released at the moment are all from the closed beta diamond supporters, not from the shop transactions. As the title of diamond supporters is purely a closed beta package. I'm not sure of the numbers, so could well be wrong, but I think there's around 2-300 diamond supporters from closed beta. " I fail to see how a single stationary advert on the login screen can spoil your role playing experience, when at the point you see it you haven't even reached the char screen to select which char you wish to roleplay with. Sorry just do not comprehend this. Last edited by Jaknet#1426 on Mar 22, 2013, 10:27:41 PM

@VideoGeemer
It is a bit much to think about, but yes, i believe the tendency of humanity to exploit the ignorance and stupidity of others is indeed worth complaining about. Of course the difference between advertising and artfully expressing information is debatable, and at best we can only collaborate opinions ;) @Jaknet Roleplaying is a highly emotional experience. Music is well known for its ability to encourage emotion. As soon as the login screen loads, the music starts playing and an emotional response is triggered, which cascades as i embrace it consciously. The lights are already off at this point. |
