Have a look at a Metamorph-specific unique ring!

What is the interaction with triggered nova spells? Can we assume they will also be casted at the cursor's location? or perhaps the location of where the triggering critical hit occurred?
In general, triggered skills are targeted at the location of the trigger event. There is a bias away from the player (or in the more general case, the object which has the triggered skill) - so any on-hit/on-crit triggers target their skills at the thing you hit, but any when-hit/when-crit triggers target their skills at the thing that hit you.

So it works for CoC/CwC but not CWDT? Or does it not work whatsoever.

Yep, that's why I say this is a well done unique, and was quite disappointed in yesterdays Voltaxic reveal. The only skill on the list that would interest me on the list is Vortex, the rest I have been or would be quite happy to have coming from myself.
What happens with totems? Will ice nova + spell totem work like spell totem + flameblast in terms of targeting location?

I think people are looking at the 20% less AOE thing the wrong way, though. This ring just replaces a spell slot: Ice Nova suffers less AOE when used on Frostbolt, anyway.

Now you don't need to cast any bolts. Just spam the nova. Or use Spell Cascade for more coverage. Or both.

It may be easier to control enemies getting hit by both rings of Shock Nova with a smaller area, too.

Except that currently when you use things like "spell echo" on ice nova when your using frost bolts it doesn't lock you in place but still repeats the nova's from the frost bolts.

It's one of the reasons why pledge of hands with "greater spell echo" is used currently with it, since greater spell echo + spell echo makes your ice nova repeat 6x on the frostbolt for a single cast.

So yeah, really, this ring is uselless game-play wise.

It's unique though, but out of date with where the game is at.

Peace,

The clarification and mechanics info are very much appreciated, cheers Mark.

A user on reddit pointed out that Shockwave Totem was missing from my list, I have edited to include it, that's also a Nova skill.

In the totem's case, how far can it cast the shockwave? I guess the same for self casting something like Discharge, what's the actual cast range for targeting the nova?
DISCHARGE?! That is sublime.
You know, if you guys didn't obliterate discharge totems into nonexistence (in... 3.7, maybe?), this ring could've actually been cool for that.

But no one self-casts discharge so. I stand by my previous comment.

In general, defaul spell targeting range is 120, which is less a range and more an abuse-case mitigator for people trying to manually change packets to target things screens away - it covers almost the entire screen (a little bit of the top left/right corners can't be targeted by skills since the last time we zoomed out the camera a bit, and this can be affected by terrain height changes and such). Pretty much anywhere you could click to target a projectile.

Totems have an aggro range at which they'll see monsters, so it won't be able to try to target outside that, since it won't target things it can't see.

and Death's Oath works with Arcane Surge by adding a hidden Duration tag...
It does not and never has. The game fundamentally does not work that way. A skill is considered to have the tags matching it's skill gem, and no others. Supports do not modifiy tags.

does mark even...? the only reason you can 6l death's oath is because of arcane surge. there are literally 4 support gems that work with that thing WITH arcane surge lmfao.
