Oh.. that is an absolutely terrible design choice considering elder content will already be extremely rare.

ya cant say im a fan tbh.

this whole thing with map mods... its interesting right? its kind of a cool design, kind of... but look, if you give me this map, why would I play it with hard mods?

Some builds dont care about certain mods that are hard for a different build. blood magic vaal pact cyclone, do you care about regen? no. A heavy mana cost heavy invested in regen caster might be put in trouble by it, other builds literally cant run it.

So Ive cleared the Minotaur. Ok, is that an achievement? I could have rolled it blue for magic mobs and just thrown it in. I cleared it with X difficult mod, ok, maybe im on a build that doesnt care about that mod.

the system asks players to either make a bad choice and play a map that is needlessly difficult for no real reward, no real bragging rights as how difficult that difficulty is is a sort of nebulous concept.

If I clear a tier 113 greater rift in diablo, sure u got layout rng, but its a thing, its a number, its a fixed staple of yes, this is how far I got, i managed this, next step is 114 and the rewards are slightly better than 113, can I manage that? my friend just did a 116? fuck man, I need to step it up...

whats the deal with map mods on bosses? A boss can be anything from a joke to impossible for your build and its all just whatever, should I do it with hard mods? well isnt that the same as just being shit at the game? Im shit at the game and hence the game is harder for me because my build is bad, if im good at the game i make the game easier for myself, i make a build that makes the game easier, i craft gear that makes it easier, im always trying to reduce difficulty and the easier i can make the game the better player i am. and now what? ur putting a map in front of me and i can chose to play it with a lot of risk or with little risk? for what? can i turn around and even say hey man, yeah u did a t112, but i did a t118? no not really, oh I played it with extra damage as fire? ok cool. but my build is RF and extra fire for me with all my +max fire res is naturally a joke compared to all these other builds with 75% so the 'challenge' in doing so is kind of fake... its meaningless.

wheres my incentive?

i was very disappointed when they added the guardians and they were not fixed difficulty encounters like atziri etc, as soon as they said u can roll the maps and it effects the boss it just was a write off cause i can run the map white if i want and honestly theres very little reason not to outside of my own desire for the game to be better than it actually is, so i roll it anyway and pretend theres a point that really isnt there if were being honest, but i dont roll it nightmarish unless im a build who doesnt care about nightmarish, because why would i?

The devs did say they wanted to make the endgame more challenging...

unfortunately when ggg decide to go 'challenging' what it often means is you 1 shot the entire map and its impossible to lose, and then the boss 1 shots you and its impossible to win, unless you go make a build with 108 million dps and then you 1 shot the boss and its impossible to lose again. thats the challenge, to hit 8 figure dps in pob and trade ur way into owning the map.

not always, but often enough that its always my fear when it comes back around and they talk like this. we want the game to be more challenging, it needs to be, but it needs it most in terms of fighting mobs in maps, not in terms of a boss being bullshit.

lets see how it plays out, not saying it will be bad, could be great, these are just the fears, im willing it to be great and will be very happy and on the forums praising it if it is.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
Bosses do get all map mods , as showcased in the OP's example and they are still phased depending on which tier of map.
