1. a person, now especially a woman, who professes or is supposed to practice magic or sorcery; a sorceress.Compare warlock.

2.a woman who is supposed to have evil or wicked magical powers: witches in black robes and pointed hats.

3.an ugly or mean old woman; hag

contextually, we can omit #3. since magic does not exist, we can conclude there are no witches. OBVIOUSLY.

you make the mistake of comparing a belief to an action. preachers exist. believers of ____ exist. sorcery does not exist. ergo, practitioners of sorcery do not exist. OBVIOUSLY
Obviously. But I haven't made a mistake. You asked about "witches", not "people who exhibit real magical powers".

Seriously, read your definition #1. Specifically, the word "professes". To profess to doing something just means you say you do it. It doesn't require that you actually are able to do it (by your own or anyone else's standards). A priest who says they hear God professes to doing so. Whether they do hear a god or just think they do is irrelevant; they still engage in all the practices around their beliefs and perform the functions of their position in that community of believers.

Thanks for the giggle everybody.

The things people will entertain when they have to much free-time is mindboggling, yet entertaining.

Inb4 we need all ethnic groups represented in the character design screen and some additional collors just to be ahead of the curve.

Peace,

-Boem-
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

Read the second paragraph of the post you’re quoting, which is specifically addressing the point you’re insisting on making now. You can’t just ignore the words before “practice magic or sorcery”; that’s not how English works, you need to read the whole sentence.

For example, three sentence fragments:
1. “A person who flies an aircraft”
2. “A person who is supposed to fly an aircraft”
3. ”A person who professes flying an aircraft”

(1) does not mean the same as (2) or (3). (1) does specifically requires that the person actually fly an aircraft. But this is not the phreasing of the definition being discussed. (2) does not require the person to fly; it refers to a person that other people expect to fly an aircraft, regardless of whether it actually happens. (3) also does not; it refers to a person who says they fly aircraft.

And that remains the case when the verb phrase is “practices magic or sorcery” instead. To accuse me of cherry-picking while acting like the highlighted phrase is the only important part of the sentence (ie. cherry-picking) is very silly.

Okay, sounds good. When you stop being so defensive and leave out the silly mocking (“transparent”, “SJW” etc) this is just...suggesting there be a character creator.
...magic being real is a pre-req for one being supposed to practice it. derp.

unlike planes, which are real.
unlike piloting a plane, which is a real possibility.

Apparently using the term warlock can be offensive to those irl whom call themselves witches

Fun fact, given my meager experience with the religion in my younger years: Wiccans have an issue with warlocks being the male equivalent of witches. Warlocks are supposed to be the bad witches, the ones who misuse magic for selfish reasons. The term 'witch' is supposed to be a gender-inclusive title for anyone who follows the Craft. It's wicca, shit's weird, and I don't really follow it anymore, but that's the gist of it.

Given this context, it's quite possible to have male witches in PoE. Technically, the Mortality Experimenters and Reanimators in Lunaris Temple act 3 are witches despite being male.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish.

No, it isn’t. Belief that magic is real is the prerequisite, and that’s not the same thing. That was the point of using religious people as an example earlier. You or I not sharing all their beliefs doesn’t change the term for their group or their position.
