Side by side graph showing player retention on Steam for the last 3 leagues
Every league offer something different. This will always be the case.
Synthesis offered very little to the casual player, while offering tremendous power to the hardcore farmer. We've had several leagues where the the opposite was true, like Harbinger and Abyss, leagues that didn't really offer an exciting, challenging end game. This league lets both the casual and the hardcore gamer thrive on different areas. The casual player will never be efficient enough to make 5 way timeless fights rewarding, but can pretty easily "get by" just by farming regular maps or "fast" maps, focusing on monolith farming. The hardcore gamer buys the casual gamer's emblems, and makes a fortune farming timeless zones. Next league will probably have a different balance. And the next after that? A different balance again. The cycle is never ending. "The best" league will always be subjective, and leagues will always be different. I'm just looking forward to the league where they manage to make farming high level maps more encouraging based on the league mechanic. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.
