Ok, I'm curious about weapons and am looking for some input. My husband was lucky enough to loot a Mon'tregul's a while ago and passed it along to me and it's working great, but I'm wondering if there's a tipping point where I would be better off using a rare instead so I could get other stats on it along with +minion damage?
Apologies if this is a silly question. I did try searching around and couldn't find the answer I was looking for. |

The tipping point is when you get to content high enough that constantly cycling skeletons becomes necessary to clear maps or delves in a reasonable time. For me that was roughly mid-yellow maps and ~120 delve. Mon'tregul's Grasp is awesome for zombies, but doesn't help skeletons at all. If you can get a temple weapon with 90+% minion damage on it, using that and maintaining a full set of skeletons (you will need Bone Sculptor to do this effectively, so at least Merciless Lab complete) will result in more damage than using Grasp. For a while I swapped back into Grasp for boss fights (in conjunction with Concentrated Effect for the slams), but after a while I got lazy and just launched full skellies plus Vaal Skeletons instead.

" Level 76 and a rare tier 5 map with an overlooked "monster speed can not be modified below base speed" combined with "monsters fire 2 extra projectiles" and I had my first death. Not complaining, but magic tier 5 was too easy, so I thought, let's try rare. It proved to be too much, and even 8 of my zombies died with me. Since I'm using a taproot I bought elder gloves with "socketed gems are supported by a level 18 poison" and put the charged dash gems in. Works like a charm. Note that it only works because I leveled my charged dash, and it actually does damage. Since we charge into large packs, a lot of the mobs will get poisoned and that procs the taproot's leech. It's not enough to really keep you alive in tricky situations, but it works. Last edited by SwitchBL8#1097 on Apr 4, 2019, 7:29:01 PM

" Thanks, this helps a lot! I do have Bone Sculptor but I'm not that far along with maps or Delve yet. |

"Always a valid question. There are so many pros and cons to using Mon't's. By using Mon't's: - You have less minions to take aggro from the enemy. - Your Zombies have way more health. - Your Zombies have the same DPS on paper. Less hits but greater damage per hit. - The explosion upon killing enemies is great but pointless cause your zombies already annihilate mobs and it's not much value in a solo battle. So considering the above, there isn't a right or wrong answer. It's just your personal preference. Play with it for 5+ maps. See if it's good. Put yourself in tough situations and see what you prefer. I know it's vague, but it's what I've found. Excellent question. https://www.ForeverExiled.com/: Forever Exiled, A Path of Exile Podcast

"Some map mod combos don't look deadly at all and then when you enter a map you're like "WHAAAAAAT!?!?!". Something like Multiple Projectiles, Increased AoE, and maybe a curse that enhances the primary damage type of a common enemy in the map and ya...harsh. But if your zombies are dying to anything that isn't a boss in the center of the Atlas, it's just a brutal combo of mods. Don't be discouraged. Sweet combo to get leech btw. https://www.ForeverExiled.com/: Forever Exiled, A Path of Exile Podcast
