POE camera is more zoomed out than even Diablo 3, comparison pictures.
All concerns regarding off-screen shotted depending on the direction of mobs or the pvp enemy could be addressed by a freely rotatable camera with adjustable angle.

" Why not make it a 3rd person ARPG while we are at it ;-P |

" Well .. it is already. With a static 3rd person view. Which is not a bad thing - it's kinda genre defining. Just saying that it would be a possible solution. And having watched some Grim Dawn videos i must say it could be a good one. Last edited by dyneol#3245 on May 19, 2012, 9:36:35 PM

" Cant see anything ABOVE and BELOW the character. Besides, stretching the window height/width ratio causes motion sickness in most people. Thats not an acceptable solution. "It feels like holding my breath under water constantly." Me about the limited "life expectancy" of the inventory space on Path of Exile and frequent needs to go to town to unload.

I love this game. That's one thing that's been bothering me a lot in other games, including Diablo. With PoE, though, I'm able to play from a really far angle.

" I love people who dig these statistics out of their backside. If you have a disability, and you have to counter that by playing with a handicap. Then it won't matter what the developers do. You're still not gonna be at the top. Anyway, I guess you have pills for it as well. Remember, it's always good to take ones meds. To be serious: As it is now, you have the same things to overcome as everyone else. You KNOW you have less line of sight at the top and bottom. So you approach the enemy from the side. You can of course choose to balance this by having a bit less sight range to the sides, and more top to bottom. Pretty logical actually. And if you have to go up/down, like a few chaos areas force you to, you stick to single target skills and make sure you are careful enough not to get killed by your own spells. Alternately you can just turn your monitors sideways. The people with the best tech, will always have an advantage. It's just how it's always been. For melee, none of this matters. Sure, you can be shot from off-screen, but only if you stand still. No projectiles are instant hit. Only minor damage spells like cold snap, which just got nerfed to uselessness in regard to range. Unless you have no attack/movement speed at all, you will have time to dodge ranged attacks between hits. "That's how you die properly, Sailor Boy.."

Think the camera just needs to be less overhead.

The camera angle is probably fixed... as we can tell it's VERY possible for the devs to allow significant zoom.
The solution to the advantage given to players using widescreen and the difference between vertical and horizontal view is to simply send only square positional data to the client. If the only data you are sent is in the intended field of view, then it won't matter how far you zoom out. This is really the only complete solution to this problem... particularly for cut-throat. So long as enemies can target you from beyond your maximum view distance in any given direction, be it north, south, east or west of your screen, then the camera needs to be zoomed out more, or the AI detection radius needs to be lowered, preferably the former and not the latter. This shouldn't be something that needs to be debated. There isn't any conceivable reason I can think of as to why they shouldn't allow you to. If it makes the game too 'easy' then they should find better ways to make the game harder than limiting the player's ability to see his enemies.
