The Fairgraves Mystery Box

I have bought three straight away. Now I still own an even 400 points.

Don`t know when I will "unwrap" them. I have given the last two or three leagues a miss. Levelled my highest Standard sc char one or two levels in the last six to eight months.

I get older. PoE stays forever young. Tales of a GamerDad ;-)

Take care all. Good hunting.
The light at the end of the tunnel is nothing but a muzzleflash.
It glows! *___*
With that you have already "fished" me ;D

You know nothing about me, son. I've been involved in gaming since Pong and the Color Computer 2. People older (and more intelligent) than the lint in my pockets recognized how much these boxes sucked immediately and have been voicing our opinions against them since day 1. The fleecing of the gamer didn't start with gambling boxes but they are the straw that may have broken the camel's back. The climate is shifting against anti-consumerism in the gaming industry and the industry needs to adjust to it or face chapter 7.

These companies know exactly what they are doing when they manipulate people with this form of gambling. Lotteries, sweepstakes and casinos have been doing it forever. What they fail to see is the fact that the massive success of these gambling boxes prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that more people are far more likely to make purchases if the pricing is reasonable.

These things sell to certain people in huge quantities (those are the problem gamblers the crates prey upon) but they also sell ridiculous numbers of them to people who are OK with spending $3 a couple of times on the chance to get something rather than $32 on one thing. They prove that they make more money from large volumes of sales of lower priced "goods" than they make from whales willing to spend $250 for one set of cosmetic armor.

That doesn't mean people will line up to buy a hat for $10 but I would bet that a full set of well designed armor would sell like mad at that price. It would be interesting to see them offer a set that had mass appeal (not some shitty clown suit only attractive to a niche) at that price point as a test.

Once gambling boxes are banned, I'm hopeful that companies like TencentGGG make that connection and overhaul their shop with that fact in mind.

Respect.

You are right, until you posted this textwall you were just a regular internet shouty man and that's all I knew about you. However, now I know that you are an opinionated manchild that is easily triggered.

You are also right that people FAR more intelligent than you are solving this issue currently because the people that must make all the money in the world overreached their grasp. However, you and a throng of likeminded simpletons are here on the forums shouting from the rooftops the same tired shit about the issue that can be found after 10 minutes of googling it. You are neither intelligent enough nor actually invested in discussing the issues with this specific monetization system for this specific game to actually add anything worth discussing. So keep pissing in the wind while more apt folk solve the issue you latched onto.

I concur that someone in that exchange was triggered.

Never had a major thing for pirate stuff so easy one for me to skip... The mystic wings look great and the combined-look armor looks cool. All of the pets and most of the effects are top notch.
I just started playing this game and I'm already in love with how the game is supported :)
What's funny is the amount of sublimation going on here.

Because you got scammed or saw the scams in other games you immediately associate loot boxes with a bad user experience and 'bad company' mantra.

Those previous issues were predicated on microtransactions that provided an advantage to players our MTX in PoE are for visual effect only.

Comparing apples and bananas.

I'll admit that the UX isn't great right now, I'm in alignment with everyone here on that point. But we should be OK with the Skinner Box if you can break down those MTX you get that are duplicate, un-useful, not what you want and craft them into something useful at a near equal rate of return on investment. Something like a 5% loss rate would probably be healthy.

Heroes of the Storm does an excellent job with LootCrates as an example.

When you start halving (or less) the return on investment of your points, that's when it becomes the money-grab. But philosophically this set of functionality doesn't shift PoE from its longstanding principals

I think we all unequivocally supported this game because it was founded on a set of principals.

Those key principals for me still exist
- No P2W
- Community-driven feedback
- Player supported
- Leagues that drive new content and creative ways to re-invent the genre

All those boxes are still checked for me
