Exactly your options will be :

- Play whatever the new league is for free
- Pay to play a harder version of the new league with no extra rewards

(i guess you could add no mods to the new league and just play it in private too)

But Private Leagues are optional? I'm having a really hard time seeing how X% of the community is going to be playing Private Leagues over Standard Leagues during the peak times of said Standard Leagues. This is something you do w/ friends, guilds, content-creators, etc. and quite possibly will be utilized during the downtime of leagues.

Private leagues are exposed to the regular trade APIs and will be indexed by both community trade sites and www.pathofexile.com/trade.

Guessing it will appear in the drop down with all the other leagues ?

Now we see why we have had no Flashback event to keep us occupied till the next expansion... They want us to pay for it. I think I'll go play something else instead.
