I have same problem with steam version.

We've created a potential fix for this issue and are about to test it. If the test goes well we'll push the fix to the live realm.

The new Steam patch is now available. The stand alone client patch is still coming.

The stand alone patch is now live. If you're receiving the "In source code file:" error on Steam can you please let us know when this happens for you?

The shader error appears to be fixed now but people are still experiencing the "In source code file:" on both the Steam and stand alone clients. We're investigating this now. Thank you for your reports.

EDIT: GGG patch is live for steam and stand-alone client. After downloading it bellow fix shouldn't be necessary.

--------------------------

I had the same error. Here's how I fixed it:

Go to:
C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\my games\Path of Exile\production_Config.ini
Open this file with text editor (Notepad++ worked for me the best) and find below line and change any value it has to number 2. It should look like this:

screenspace_effects=2

Be sure to make a backupof this file in any case.

Same problem here with non-Steam version.
Removing Shader folder did not work.

E: the method above works!

Check. Works.
I can confirm that what Corey says above works, however, I don't see the point since they are patching it. You can get past the error but you can't get in now since they are patching anyway.

Patience.

We're opening the queues while we investigate this. It seems that you can click past the error but we will still need to resolve it.

This is supposed to be "Official Path of Exile Forum". It should be where company/devs/moderators communicate well. However, GGG is strangely acting like "Twitter" is their official forum. LOL
