Global Illumination and Point Light Shadows Preview
Well, its a very nice improvement (I really like how global likes work), but I think its time to update minimum an recomended system requirements for this game. |

hype

I swear I read "Global Illuminati" and thought GGG was about to drop some real shit on us

Looks amazing and I can definitely see it having a dramatic effect on the visuals of certain parts of the game.
Even though dynamic resolution kicks in for me a good part of the time when I am mapping, these little adjustments to the overall look & feel of the game are nothing but good news. |

I doubt performance will not be affected. Probably another graphical change for the worse.
I expect to be completely WRONG, but ... the latest graphical patches made the game slower! Last edited by Treufeldt#6689 on Aug 20, 2018, 10:34:35 AM

One the one hand:
pages and pages of people going apes*** about what this will do to performance and raging that GGG should put more effort into performance improvements. On the other hand (paraphrased from text in the main post): 1. Old shadow engine didn't do screen space shadows; required rendering each light effect separately (so more objects/lights, more processing) 2. NEW! Screen space shadows (faster than before!) 3. NEW! Global Illumination (optional!) 4. Both of the above run in near constant time and are ergo VIRTUALLY UNAFFECTED BY NUMBER OF OBJECTS ON SCREEN ....... how is this (especially #4) not a performance improvement?
